Grants / Foundations Officer – Scion Nonprofit Staffing – Berkeley, CA

Scion Nonprofit Staffing (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com) has been engaged to conduct a search for a Grants and Foundations Officer for our nonprofit client, a prestigious nonprofit legal services provider in Berkeley, CA. This full-time contract position is slated to last for 3 months.

The ideal candidate is a good humored and extremely organized development professional with a keen eye for detail, trouble-shooting capabilities, excellent judgement, and a proactive attitude. Top-notch writing skills are a must!

OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Grants and Foundations Officer plays a critical role in the fundraising operations of this socially conscious nonprofit.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
– Research new prospects for grants, foundations, corporate and governmental sources of support
– Manage the cultivation and solicitation of charitable contributions from foundations and government entities, including attending proposal workshops and in-person meetings
– Write and/or edit foundation and government grant proposals and applications, collaborating with program staff to gather necessary information and ensure compliance with guidelines
– Maintain a calendar and tracking system of grant deadlines
– Support the Development calendar of activities, including regular schedule of snail mail, email and social media communications to ongoing and potential supporters
– Work with the Development Team (Director of Development & Planning, Development Officer, Executive Director) and the Board of Directors as needed
– Additional tasks as assigned by Supervisor

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
– Bachelor’s Degree; or combination of education and experience
– Commitment to the organization’s social justice mission
– Minimum of 1 year of experience in grant writing for nonprofits
– Donor database experience, a must. Prior database experience with DonorPerfect and Exceed strongly preferred
– Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
– Must have exceptionally strong written skills
– Candidate must have excellent organizational skills, be sensitive to detail and deadlines in a multitasking environment
– Candidate must be able to function in an environment with minimal supervision.
– Experience with public relations and media skills
– Ability to exercise diplomacy, professionalism, and tact in handling confidential and/or sensitive matters

COMPENSATION:
$25-$30/hour, depending on experience.
