Junior Communications Associate

Part-time / Temporary Position (6 months)

$15/hr @ 20hr/wk

The Organization

Mi Familia Vota Ed Fund is one of the premiere Latino civic engagement organizations in the country with a trained and skilled staff dedicated to the empowerment and civic participation of the Latino community. MFVEF develops, coordinates, and implements sophisticated non-partisan field programs and strategies including citizenship promotion and assistance, voter registration, and voter education and mobilization. Established in 2008, MFVEF is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors comprised of renowned labor, LGBT rights, and corporate and philanthropic leaders. MFVEF is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, maintaining operations in Riverside & Modesto, California; Denver & Pueblo, Colorado; Orlando & Tampa, Florida; Reno & Las Vegas, Nevada; and Houston, Texas with an annual operating budget of $2.5 million. Our staff members are leaders in the communities we serve, reflecting the diversity of their constituency. Our national and local leadership bring many years of experience in a vast array of sectors including civic engagement and community organizing.

The Position

Reports directly to National Director of Development & Communications
Oversee digital media efforts
Update and manage all regional and national Spanish and English media lists
Press clip tracking and RSS feed maintenance
Press Release, PS, and MA development and dissemination
Assist with e-blast and SMS efforts via Nationbuilder and Revolution Messaging platforms
Help develop, compile, and maintain Communications tools and resources on shared drive
Develop media programming scripts and timelines
Develop, update, and maintain all template and infrastructural graphic items
Design collateral materials for regional and national campaigns
Develop and present New Media ideas to Communications team
Compilation of weekly highlights and other internal communications
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

1-2 years of communications and/or writing experience. A combination of internships is acceptable
Basic proficiency in Spanish (written and spoken).
Excellent writing skills
Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with other communicators
Comfort with public speaking, and managing multiple audiences.
Excellent writing skills and ability to prepare written materials, ranging form press releases to program reports.
Highly self motivated and responsible, with a proven track record of working alone as well as fast-paced environments.
Willing to travel and work flexible/extended hours (including weekends), as required.
If a driver, must have a valid driver’s license with proof of automobile insurance coverage
Ability to work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
