POSITION OVERVIEW
Founded in 2003 by MacArthur Fellow Dave Isay, StoryCorps has given more than 100,000 people the chance to record interviews about their lives, pass wisdom from one generation to the next, and leave a legacy for the future. StoryCorps shares edited excerpts of these interviews through popular weekly NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms, and bestselling books. We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters.
The goal of StoryCorps’ Marketing & Communications (M&C) Department is to tell the story of StoryCorps and share our content with the world. We are seeking an adaptable, creative, and organized Manager, Content Marketing to help expand StoryCorps’ awareness, viewers, and listeners.
Under the supervision of the Director, Marketing & Communications, the Manager will work with special focus on supporting distribution of StoryCorps animated shorts, audio stories and print content, in addition to playing a key role in StoryCorps’ growing efforts to pursue mission-aligned content partnerships within and outside the public media sphere.
StoryCorps records, shares, and preserves stories from a diverse range of American voices — from our Griot Initiative to preserve stories of African Americans, to our Historias Initiative to collect the experiences of Latinos. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management (60%)
Liaise with External Station Relations Consultant to solicit, track, and report on carriage of StoryCorps animated shorts
Prepare animation carriage reports for Animation, Development and Executive teams, as well as funders
Act as primary contact to stations for assets, materials, and information related to the shorts
Draft correspondence to stations to communicate relevant news and information about our shorts, as well copy for releasing the animated shorts, as needed
Manage StoryCorps submission to film festivals and film festival appearances
Manage and execute requests to feature our shorts in community engagement events, coordinating with external partners and initiating events as necessary
Maintain pages on the StoryCorps website, including the stations’ resources page, the StoryCorps Animation webpage, among others, and StoryCorps pages on [[http:PBS.org|PBS.org]]
Perform other duties to support the Marketing & Communications department as assigned
Content Marketing & Engagement (40%)
Lead paid and unpaid campaigns to drive engagement with StoryCorps’ content; coordinate with content partners, both within the public media sphere and beyond, in creating opportunities that bring new audiences to StoryCorps content
Develop marketing materials and online engagement tools to promote StoryCorps animated shorts, including production of behind-the-scenes videos
With M&C team, write and edit copy for [[http:StoryCorps.org|StoryCorps.org]], collaborating on content generation with all teams at StoryCorps to assure website and homepage are updated with timely information (news, stories, and events) and creative content
Create and maintain multimedia content packages featuring StoryCorps animation, audio and print content to be ready for holidays, date pegs and other news events; manage an annual calendar of relevant dates, events, and date pegs, for occasions to promote StoryCorps, its content, and its offerings
Evaluate success through tracking performance metrics, running reports, and other efforts as directed by the Director, M&C and Editorial Director for Digital Properties
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Required:
At least 5 years relevant experience, ideally in a media or mission-driven setting, and covering areas such as marketing, client communications and digital media
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels
Familiarity with and affinity for public media landscape
Experience and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based setting
Strong computer skills, including fluency in common digital media formats
Superior organization skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail
Ability to work under deadlines, to organize information and handle multiple assigned tasks efficiently
Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organization
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Cultural humility and experience working successfully with diverse groups of people
Preferred:
Work history in public television, with a particular focus on programming or promotion work
Basic knowledge of HTML; strong experience with Content Management Systems, including WordPress
Past experience producing content for the web specifically, as well as channel-specific knowledge (blog, SlideShare, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
Knowledge of photography, video editing and production
Proficiency on a Mac platform
Multi-lingual (orally and in writing)
