The Manager, Direct Mail leads the project management, fundraising and writing/creation of the direct mail, telemarketing, acknowledgement, and stewardship efforts to meet organizational fundraising objectives for grassroots and mid-level donors through mass market offline channels. This position manages relationship with direct mail agency and supports Individual Giving team’s objectives for donor acquisition, retention/renewal, and upgrading/committed giving conversion. The Manager, Direct Mail is an important member of the Individual Giving team and works with and reports directly to the Director, Integrated Marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the day to day implementation of our offline individual giving programs (mail, telemarketing, acknowledgement, and stewardship) from creation to deployment with a goal of increasing revenue, improving donor retention, and upgrading donors. Responsibilities include: budget and goal management, testing strategy development, audience segmentation and selection, research and writing/editing, and timely administration of daily production work flow and deadlines.
Manages day-to-day relationship with fundraising consultant and partner vendors.
Assumes responsibility for stewardship efforts including: direct donor communications, quarterly acknowledgment updates, writing bi-annual newsletter, and working with volunteers and interns to support these goals.
Communicate with donors and potential donors to acknowledge support and increase giving and donor retention.
Analyzes campaigns, giving trends, and results to inform future segmentations and efforts and distributes monthly updates to internal teams.
Manage budget, obtain bids, negotiate costs, track inventory, and manage the daily workflow of all production and print work related to marketing collateral, literature, direct mail, and other promotional material, to include internal creative review.
Work with data team to track expenses, monitor list pulls, and contribute to efficient database management and data integrity.
Assume responsibility for program related administrative tasks.
Assists committed giving program with copy and design for country-specific mini campaigns and emergency communication updates.
Help develop an integrated communications plan and fundraising strategies for mid-level donors in coordination with the major donor program.
Supports the Director, Integrated Marketing to achieve individual giving objectives through an integrated fundraising, committed giving/child sponsorship, and stewardship strategy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of experience in direct mail, fundraising writing, and donor stewardship ideally at a mid-to-large size nonprofit;
Knowledge and experience with direct mail and annual giving strategies, constituencies, methods, metrics, and best practices;
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills;
Proficiency in MS Office Suite particularly Word and Excel and in donor databases; familiarity with ROI Solutions a plus;
Self-starter with exceptional organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner to meet timelines.
Decisive and analytical, a proactive problem solver;
Ability to handle multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines and work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team;
