Manager of Communications – Equal Opportunity Schools – Seattle, WA

The Manager of Communications is a new role for EOS and one that will impact every facet of the organization and all of its internal and external stakeholders. The MoC will join a team of thirty-two high-caliber individuals and will be the first employee in EOS’s history dedicated to communications. As such, EOS is seeking a Manager of Communications who has substantial experience and who is excited about the opportunity to make both immediate and lasting contribution to EOS. The MoC will work with the leadership team to set and guide EOS’s long-term strategy while working on a set of urgent near-term communications need.

responsibilities

The Manager of Communications will be responsible for delivering the following services:

Work with the leadership to set EOS’s long-term communications strategy while working to rollout urgent near-term communications needs.
Manage external vendors for the development and design of NEW sales and program collateral
Work with the Partnerships and Program teams to review EXISTING client facing collateral for consistency, quality, and effectiveness.
Manage all content on the EOS website and lead the development of a new website with an external firm.
Develop a framework for internal and external EOS newsletters and initiate the implementation of such.
Work with the Strategic Initiatives Department to develop a series of student interviews about their experiences in AP and how it has helped prepare them for college.
Create, manage, and grow the company’s presence through Twitter, Facebook, and other strategically relevant online and digital properties.
Manage incoming media requests and build relationships with journalists; create, execute, and measure media campaigns

Qualifications

EOS is seeking an accomplished Manager of Communications who has at least 7 years of communications experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex nonprofit or for-profit entity and covering areas such as setting communications strategy, internal and external branding, managing external communications with a variety of constituents including employees, clients, prospective clients, and media. In addition, candidates should have experience managing website content and external newsletters. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
Commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, program participants and other supporters
Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
