SUMMARY The Marketing and Communications Manager (MCM) oversees development, management and implementation of all communications/marketing activities and efforts at Spirit Rock. S/he is responsible for maintaining a consistent brand across all channels and communicating Spirit Rock’s mission to a variety of existing audiences and stakeholders, in addition to developing new ones. The MCM collaborates with a variety of internal and external partners to achieve the organizations goals and objectives. Some key aspects of the job include:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design/execute marketing strategies to increase attendance and fundraising efforts through diversified channels (e.g. national and local print/online advertising campaigns, social media and email campaigns);
Project manage a print newsletter (3x/year), redesign of the website (projected launch – July 2015), Stewardship Circle online content, outreach collateral and publicity efforts;
Work closely with Spirit Rock’s Directors of Programs, Development, and Retreat and Event Operations to promote Spirit Rock programs, development efforts and brand identity;
Partners closely with Spirit Rock’s Development Team to increase annual giving and support the capital campaign;
Develop external and internal relationships with media and Spirit Rock teachers to ensure the organization and teachers are well-represented in the press/ online media;
Manage communications team in a collaborative manner–harnessing resident expertise, mentoring direct reports, and working effectively and efficiently to support the whole organization’s communications needs;
Participate in creating the annual Communications budget, code and approve invoices and track expenditures to stay within budget;
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 5 years management or senior level responsibility in marketing and communications and public relations;
Superb communications skills — public speaking/presentation, written word, and visual/design;
Understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for Spirit Rock’s mission and its unique community; and an understanding of Buddhism and Theravada teachings;
Strong personnel management skills — oversight, mentoring and accountability;
Proven experience developing brand messages and visuals and communicating them powerfully;
Demonstrated expertise in managing websites and site content via content management systems;
familiarity with other online marketing, social media, electronic newsletters, and email campaigns;
Experience in scheduling and project management to support workflow for communications;
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite desired.
