The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO)—one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful inner city community development agencies—is seeking an individual to assist in our programmatic and general support fundraising activities with foundations, corporations, and government agencies. SoBRO’s services include educational and vocational programs for adults, in-school and after-school programs for youth, affordable housing development, entrepreneurial development and business assistance programs, and a wide spectrum of commercial revitalization activities.
Overview of the Program:
Industrial Business Zones (IBZs) serve to protect the City’s critical industrial jobs by ensuring that these companies have adequate, affordable space to work and grow in an environment of quickly escalating cost. The IBZ is administered by an Industrial Business Zone Provider who is familiar with the needs of industrial companies in each area. The coordinator works with other appropriate agencies to ensure that these industrial neighborhoods are maintained in top condition to welcome and promote business. SoBRO oversees all of the five Bronx Industrial Business Zones (Hunts Point, Zerega, Port Morris, Bathgate and Eastchester).
Overview of the Position:
This is a great opportunity to develop and enhance your marketing skills by assisting the industrial business clients we serve. Reporting to the Asst. V.P. of Business Services, you will conduct outreach, assist and organize local industrial companies to understand their specific needs and challenges, coordinate responses from various government agencies, deliver technical support services and provide financial opportunities that meets their needs. Familiar with a variety of industrial job and business-retention programs available to companies in New York City.
Qualifications: Preferred Skills:
Exemplary verbal and written communicator who is tactful and gently persistent;
Work both individually and with senior management on strategic planning;
Ability to review and oversee a variety of financial reporting requirements;
Proven business acumen and strong presentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
Familiar with city and government structure and operations;
Previous experience providing business assistance, preferably to industrial businesses;
Familiar with finance packaging experience strongly preferred.
A combination of education and at least 5 years of equivalent experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree will be considered.
