ABOUT BEGINNING WITH CHILDREN FOUNDATION
BwCF was founded in 1990 to establish a high quality school for low-income children in
Williamsburg, Brooklyn and to advocate for educational reform in public education. Over the
past two decades of groundbreaking work, BwCF has educated over 1,500 New York City
children and continues to work with students to ensure success after they graduate from our
schools through our celebrated Alumni Program. BwCF is the educational management
organization of three Brooklyn charter schools. Our schools offer personalized instruction that
addresses the individual needs of students. Our programs use ongoing assessment to
monitor every child’s progress and adjust the curriculum as needed to ensure the mastery of
important skills. We teach students to work together and persevere through challenges with
integrity and compassion.
POSITION–PURCHASING COORDINATOR
BwCF is currently seeking a motivated and detailed Purchasing Coordinator to facilitate all
school purchasing. Reporting to the BwCF Controller, the Purchasing Coordinator will work
with school operations staff to ensure the purchasing and procurement process is streamlined
and implemented according to school policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare, maintain and review purchasing documents, files and records to ensure
compliance with established policies and procedures
Prepare bid documents to ensure procedures are in compliance with all Federal and
State grant procurement regulations
Coordinate placing orders, follow-up on all orders and track deliveries
Process requisitions to generate approved purchase orders according to organization
policies and procedures
Maintain vendor relationships
Compare vendor invoices with purchase orders, bids to verify accuracy
Check shipments when received to ensure orders have been filled correctly
Perform physical inventory counts
Review State Education Department and Federal Grant requirements for purchasing and
bidding compliance
Participate in school operations meetings and training workshops for the purpose of
conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions
Manage parent billing for student meals
Local travel between school campuses
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
BA in Business, Accounting, or Finance required
Previous experience working in a school environment preferred
Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Financial Edge accounting softwarepreferred
Three to five years of experience in purchasing in a business or education setting
Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others
Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Self-motivated and exceptional organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft office products
