The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO)—one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful inner city community development agencies. SoBRO’s services include educational and vocational programs for adults, in-school and after-school programs for youth, affordable housing development, entrepreneurial development and business assistance programs, and a wide spectrum of commercial revitalization activities.
Internship Overview:
The Economic Development Assistant will be responsible for the administrative and clerical duties as they relate to the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program. This is a great opportunity if you have an interest in working with small businesses and also offers the potential to develop and enhance your skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful internship candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and any additional responsibilities as assigned.
Will provide direct support to clients on key areas, such as legal assistance and certifications; liaison to our pro-bono attorneys and procurement department;
Responsible for client intake and follow-up, and schedule appointments;
Maintain department files and update client information on our systems;
Support for all trainings, mailings, tracking attendance and event coordination;
Keeping track of and purchasing supplies for the department;
Schedule meetings with clients and follow up on outcome of those meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Basic accounting knowledge and familiarity with financial statements;
Effective communications, both verbal and written;
Exceptional interpersonal skills, with superior written and verbal communications;
Excellent administrative skills to include ability to prioritize work and multi-task;
Accuracy, detail oriented, organized and able to meet deadlines;
Ability to work independently and as a team member;
Ability to present information concisely and effectively;
Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet staffing and departmental needs, including evening and weekends.
25 hours per week / Hour are flexible based on school schedule
