Americorps – Youth Programs Assistant – Cascade Bicycle Club – Seattle, WA

About: Cascade Bicycle Club is a 16,000 member, 38 professional staff bicycle club based in Seattle, Washington. Cascade’s activities serve the bicycling community in the Puget Sound region and hosts rides for riders from across the globe. The Improving Lives through Bicycling Program project addresses the need for healthy transportation options for adults, healthy learning habits for children and better infrastructure for all to access in order to utilize the bicycle.

The Youth Program AmeriCorps helps Cascade in providing direct service in bicycling safety education and healthy living programming in the Puget Sound region. Bicycling safety education supports the goals of Healthy Futures by providing community members a means to combat obesity, helping them develop healthy and safe habits and giving them an environmentally friendly, active transportation option. Cascade’s direct-service programs reach a broad spectrum of community members; specific initiatives target disadvantaged youth and low-income neighborhoods. The Youth Program AmeriCorps operates elementary-aged in-school programs for youth in four school districts, including providing classroom support for P.E. teachers in the schools, assists with the Bike to School Month program, teaching summer camps and after-school cycling clubs, and managing a fleet of bikes and the volunteers required to maintain the fleet. The Youth Program AmeriCorps helps Cascade meet community demand by expanding ongoing programs, educating youth and adults, and adding to our volunteer base.
