Job description
The Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) is a leader in the field of community-based alternatives to incarceration. Through innovative and pioneering services as well as the research, public advocacy and training of its Justice Strategies division, CCA fosters individual transformation and reduced reliance on incarceration, and advocates for more responsive juvenile and criminal justice policies.

We are seeking a part time community outreach worker to engage with youth and young adults to helpo them become educated and make better choices regarding substance use and sexual and reporductive health.

Responsible for outreach and engagement of youth and young adults to participate in the program. Using evidenced-based intervention methods conduct HIV rapid testing, provide referrals, facilitate individual and group harm reduction, prevention education, recovery readiness, and relapse prevention services and peer leadership training.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement outreach plan to reach the target population, i.e., youth or young adults involved with or at risk of involvement with the criminal/juvenile justice system.
Develop curriculum in reference to Substance Use, HIV and Viral Hepatitis prevention.
Deliver prevention education in community settings where the target population is found (eg community based organizations, juvenile and adult detention facilities, etc).
Distribute information and risk reduction material (e.g. handing out literature, safer sex supplies) to people reached through program outreach.
Assess mental health, HIV status, risk factors and substance use history.
Conduct pre and post-test HIV counseling. Administer HIV rapid testing
Facilitate or co-facilitate prevention education and harm reduction services utilizing the Be Proud! Be Responsible! curricula.
Develop guide for peer and peer leader roles and responsibilities.
Deliver peer leadership training. Support peer leaders in the delivery of community outreach.
Help youth design social media campaigns.
Provide information, support, advocacy and referrals to community agencies.
Collect, record and maintain program files. Timely and accurately complete all required reports and forms. Assist supervisor with program reports.
Attend staff and community meetings, as required
Participates in in-service and outside training.

Qualification: Commitment to and experience in working with adults and youth with diverse cultural backgrounds who are involved, or at risk of involvement, with the criminal/juvenile justice system, HIV/AIDS, or substance abuse. Some college preferred with in a public health or human services tract and experience providing HIV prevention services. Strong written/oral communication, presentation and advocacy skills with the ability to negotiate multiple service delivery systems and agencies. Computer literacy (word processing, e-mail, internet research, data entry) required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Social media, filmmaking, radio and photoshop experience a plus.
