The West End House (WEH) is an independent Boys & Girls Club in the City of Boston that has been transforming the lives of immigrant and urban youth since its founding in 1906. Our mission is to inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realize their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. We offer a rich array of activities in four program areas: leadership and life skills, academic success and college preparation, visual and performing arts, and fitness and nutrition.
Creative play and physical activity are fundamental to youth development, from building confidence to improving motor skills to learning values such as fair play and following rules. Working with the Sports and Fitness Program team, the Creative Play Assistant will bring fun and healthy play to youth ages 7 to 18 through the key activities listed below.
Responsibilities
Create and implement a broad range of activities that encourage healthy plan and physical activities among mixed-age groups
Employ the strength-based youth development approach to build relationships with young people
Create a safe and inclusive environment for young people of diverse ages, skill levels, and backgrounds
Manage and engage volunteers, and supervise and encourage role modeling by youth employees
Communicate with parents
Characteristics
Flexible and creative self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work through obstacles
“Hands-On” mentality and a willingness to work directly with young people and parents
Experience working in multicultural environments
Ability to relate to culturally diverse group of youth as an instructor and mentor
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma required
Knowledge of a variety of sports, fitness, and recreation activities.
Experience in youth sports and/or recreation
Experience in the out-of-school time or youth development field preferred.
Valid driver’s license required. Willing to drive a 16-passenger bus.
Pass a background and driving record check
Hours: Part-time, 15 – 18 hours per week, afternoons and evenings, mandatory Saturdays
