Development Associate – INSIGHT-OUT – San Jose, CA

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Associate will work closely with the Founder and the Executive Director in three primary areas:
Support and Grow our Individual and Major Donor Program
● Develop and coordinate major donor stewardship & cultivation activities, including donor meetings & events, campaigns, outreach and communications with existing and potential donors.
● Develop and implement processes that both analyze research data, reporting and identify touch points from initial meeting to larger commitments.
● Coordinate “visitors program” for current and potential donors to visit our program inside prison; and create ancillary donor events to deepen their connection to GRIP’s community of incarcerated/formerly incarcerated people;

● Work with ED to build communication plans based on process touch points and various donor groups. Lead and partner with admin assistant to implement communication plans. This will include leading such activities as helping to design, write, and disseminate materials, e-campaigns, brochures, presentations, newsletters, holiday cards, action alerts and large scale fund-raising campaigns.

● Develop content for website and social media platforms.
Sustain and Grow a Larger Foundation and Government Grants Program
● Develop strategy and plan for growing Foundation and Government Grants with Founder and ED.
● Work closely with Founder and ED to propose and develop framing, analysis and pitch materials
for new initiatives and proposals
● Conduct range of activities required to research, prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to
foundations and government sources.
● Write grant reports and contribute to writing/preparing grant proposals.

Build Fund Development Systems and Infrastructure:
Select, set up and maintain a new donor/funder database to ensure data integrity
Manage and track all data relating to funders – including background, donor capacity, interactions thus far, notes from meetings, pledges, etc.
Manage grants calendar and reporting requirements
Provide accurate and timely donor pipeline reports, metrics, and revenue forecast
Provide administrative and research support for all aspects of fundraising — foundation and donor prospecting; pitch meetings; cultivation events; background research, donor acknowledgements

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
● You love raising money and have experience in a non-profit (or business development) setting already. ​This role includes strengthening and growing a fund development program from one that is largely informal and held by the Founder to one that has a solid infrastructure enabling the organization to quickly grow and scale.
● You can work with a large range of different people. ​You can comfortably collaborate with people from all walks of life, including high net-worth individuals, formerly incarcerated people, government officials, and a diverse team of volunteer facilitators.
● You know how to create/manage systems, processes and tools​. In this role, you will be developing infrastructure and processes for our fund development program, including a funder database and tracking/management tools. We are run as a distributed organization, and wish to improve on our web based infrastructure.

*Your familiarity with data and modern communication, technologies and funder databases will be important.
● You are good at writing and telling a compelling story​. ​​You know how to research and solicit information that you can then turn into powerful written story that speaks to different audiences.
● You can self-manage and be flexible with where you work, in the CA Bay Area​. This position can be done partly from home at least in the first 6-12 months. We are in the process of establishing a headquarters office in San Jose, CA, and our Founder is in Woodacre, CA. Expectation: at least 2 days/week physically at the San Jose office.
● You will resonate deeply with the work we do. ​Our organization is about transforming lives and you will likely have a sense of introspection and practices of self-reflection, or at least an interest in it! Qualifications
● 3+ years fundraising experience in a non-profit organization (or relevant business development
experience in for-profit setting).
● Strong writing skills — including ability to put together material into clear and compelling stories
and make a case for funding our work; ability to compose and edit a range of documents using
correct grammar and spelling.
● Fluency with Google Suite including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, calendar, email.
● Knowledge about, and experience with funder databases (or demonstrated ability to learn and
manage databases)
● Detail-oriented, with a high commitment to accuracy re: data entry, management and reporting.
● Good organizational and time management skills;
● Able to take initiative, work independently with little direct supervision; and to be flexible within
a fluid and growing organization.
● Strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively on diverse teams
● Desire to grow and develop in the position, and increase responsibilities.
● Must be able to be cleared to enter prisons (CDCR runs a complete background check).
● Must be able to easily travel to different meetings and offices in the Bay Area.
● Bachelor’s degree preferred
