Christodora is a 118-year-old non-sectarian nonprofit organization offering environmental education and leadership training to motivated and underserved New York City public school students, connecting them to the environment. Christodora’s mission is to encourage the positive educational and developmental growth ofNew York City’s youth through stimulating educational and challenging outdoor programs.
We engage students:
in the classroom (teaching a 7-week environmental science curriculum in 20 public schools in NYC)
throughout the city (in weekend urban ecology programs, primarily at the New York Botanical Garden)
at our own wilderness camp in the Berkshires (Florida, MA)
with distinguished partners (including NOLS and the Yale School of Forestry.)
Christodora has internships available year-round. We offer excellent professional/educational experience in the areas of environmental education, nonprofit strategy and management, event planning, database administration and Development. We are looking for smart people who want to roll up their sleeves, sharpen their skills and learn. Enthusiasm, follow-through, attention to detail and an ability to work well with a variety of people are required.
Interns have the ability to work in several areas. All interns will have the opportunity to work on our new Salesforce database. This is a great opportunity to gain Salesforce experience and be part of a new database implementation – previous interns of ours have gotten full-time positions at other organizations as a result of their Salesforce experience with us.
Time: Hours can vary; schedules will be mutually agreed upon.

The two fall internships offered are:
Development – Fundraising & Event Planning
November 12th Autumn Gala. This gala typically has approximately 300 guests, and is Christodora’s largest fundraiser of the year. The fall season is highly dedicated to the creation of this event.
Help research and procure items for silent and live auction
Follow-up with and assist Benefit committee co-chairs
Create auction display boards
Assign lot numbers
Help to organize gala program
Expand and clean up mailing lists (both in general and for specific events)
Research contact information
Follow up with committee members and update addresses of their guests
Organize email addresses for electronic Save the Date and Benefit invitations and other email blasts
Write Thank You notes and other correspondence
Track donations coming into the organization
Track RSVP’s for event, # of guests, form of payment, seating requests, table assignments, etc.
Other:
Help to organize events and communications for the Junior Committee.
The intern will also research and follow up on opportunities for on individual and institutional giving. The internship involves research, writing, database maintenance and general administrative duties.

Database/Salesforce Administration:
This intern will help Christodora to organize all of its data and be involved with a migration from varied spreadsheets to the SalesForce platform. Experience with SalesForce is preferred but not essential as long as you really love manipulating data and are interested in learning the ins and outs of this powerful cloud computing tool. This will involve working with Christodora’s student and donor records.
It is essential that this intern have a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Christodora is also in the process of defining the Outcomes of its programs and developing metrics to allow us to track those outcomes. The IT intern will develop a system for compiling and analyzing program evaluation information.
Time: 2-3 days/week, start/end dates flexible
