Legal Aid of Marin provides access to the civil justice system to low-income, vulnerable and otherwise underserved residents of Marin County.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Legal Assistant supports the attorneys with the delivery of excellent client service through intake interviews, document management, clerical and technical tasks which require accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish, and computer proficiency.
The Legal Assistant is responsible for conducting client intakes 4 days per week at LAM’s office and at our off-site outreach locations throughout Marin County. The Legal Assistant will also help attorneys prepare legal documents and generate correspondence. Intakes and document preparation will deal with subject matter including unlawful detainers, landlord-tenant issues, subsidized housing, wage theft, employment discrimination, debt collection, and other civil legal issues.
This is a full time (40 hours per week) position.
REQUIREMENTS:
Four or more years of legal assistant experience preferred;
Full bilingual ability in written and verbal Spanish and English;
Strong organizational and time management skills; detail orientation; and reliability;
The ability to work efficiently under deadlines and remain calm under pressure;
Experience with MS Word and Excel is required. Experience in Prime and Legal Solutions (or similar legal software) is helpful;
A cooperative work style and commitment to LAM’s mission are essential;
Experience working with immigrant clients, elderly clients, and clients with disabilities is preferred;
BA/BS is preferred;
California Drivers’ License, own vehicle and car insurance are required.
