Position Overview
Tipping Point Community seeks a talented, dynamic Major Gifts Officer with a proven track record building relationships and driving successful fundraising. The Major Gifts Officer will play a critical role in helping Tipping Point meet our ambitious short-term and long-term growth targets. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for building funding from major donors and prospects through effective identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. This position reports to the Director, Individual Giving and will assist the Director in setting annual fundraising targets and implementing strategies to achieve them. The Major Gifts Officer will serve as an ambassador for Tipping Point, representing the organization to a variety of stakeholders, including donors, partners, and grantees. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fighting poverty and will excel at building relationships, implementing + organizing development systems, and achieving ambitious fundraising goals.
The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for achieving the following key results:
1. Reach Tipping Point’s annual fundraising goal, in collaboration with the Director, Individual Giving and the entire development team.
2. Engage with, manage, and progressively increase the fundraising outcomes from a portfolio of 120+ qualified relationships.
3. Assist Vice President, Development and Director, Individual Giving to develop and implement a comprehensive major giving strategy.
4. Effectively deploy Tipping Point’s Board, Leadership Council and staff members to assist fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities include:
Portfolio Management
Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of 120+ donors and prospects; plan, develop and oversee the implementation of individual strategies for the entire portfolio.
Maintain a fast-paced schedule of face-to-face cultivation visits for current and prospective donors.
Continuously research and identify new leads, and work diligently to convert to active donors.
Strategically leverage Board + Leadership Council members, leadership team and current donors in prospect identification, visits, and solicitations, as appropriate.
Successfully align donor interests with Tipping Point’s strategy and initiatives, and educate donors on poverty and Tipping Point’s impact.
Deliver exceptional stewardship to portfolio of current donors.
Planning + Operations
Support the Director, Individual Giving in building out annual goals and setting an actionable plan for accomplishing them.
Explore philanthropic affinity groups and plans to engage donors by demographics, geography and interest areas.
Provide Management Assistance to grantee organizations on fundraising and development topics as needed.
Effectively utilize Salesforce.com to accurately manage donor information and engagement.
Help maintain the flow of information within the development team and across Tipping Point’s leadership and staff.
Provide accurate and timely pipeline reports and revenue forecasts.
The ideal candidate will have:
Business-savvy with 7+ years experience in individual major donor development, wealth management, sales or business development.
Demonstrated track record of managing a portfolio of high net worth individual donors, soliciting and securing major gifts on a regular basis.
Persuasive verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to make dynamic presentations to diverse audiences.
Strong and flexible planning skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and function smoothly under strict timeframes and shifting priorities.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with donors, volunteers, Boards of Directors and diverse staff.
Strong commitment to Tipping Point’s mission and values, and the ability to operate with the highest degree of integrity in representing the organization.
Agility to be a strong team player that also works well independently.
Curiosity and strong desire for continuous learning, meeting new people, digging into various industries and business trends.
Great sense of humor a must.
Initiative, enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in at all times.
Strength as a self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Fluency with donor databases, ideally Salesforce.com.
Frequent local travel required and willingness to work nights and weekends as needed during critical lead-up to and execution of events.
Local knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic community a strong plus.
Bachelor’s degree or higher, or commensurate professional experience.
