Medical Assistant – Shalom Health Care Center Inc – Indianapolis, IN

Shalom Health Care Center, Inc., (SHCC), a consumer directed nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Indianapolis seeks experienced full time Medical Assistant for its Primary Care Center clinic.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Escort patient from the waiting room to the appropriate examination room.
Obtain patient vital signs and note in chart, including: Height, weight, blood pressure, vision screenings and statistical data required to meet grant reporting needs (house codes).
Assist Provider as necessary with patient care and, at Provider’s direction: Obtain specimens, e.g., blood draws, finger sticks, pregnancy tests, urine dips, etc.; Set up and obtain EKG; Administer immunizations; Prepare materials to expedite delivery of patient care.
Prepare specimen for pick-up by appropriate lab.
Ensure that examination rooms are stocked with sufficient supplies for the day.
Sterilize and prepare examination room for the next patient as needed.
Prepare orders so that replacement supplies are received prior to exhausting the current supply: Medical supplies, Vaccines, MCDH, & Orders approved by the RN Support Coordinator and/or Medical Director prior to submission.
Enter vaccine data into CHIRP registry.
Maintain temperature control logs for refrigerators and freezers.
Perform control testing on lab equipment.
Log PAP results.
Respond to messages left on personal voice mailbox in a timely manner.

Education & Qualification Requirements:

Medical Assistant diploma, mandatory. Medical Assistant Certification, preferred.
Minimum six (6) months’ medical assistant experience in clinic or outpatient environment.
Experience in EMR database (e.g., e-Clinical Works, preferred).
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Bilingual – English/Spanish, highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Work Difficulty:

Knowledge of medical office practices, procedures and equipment; appropriate Phlebotomy needle techniques; & appropriate specimen collection techniques.
Skilled in proper handling bio-hazardous materials & proper vaccination procedures; & correct usage of the English language (spelling and grammar).
Able to work independently from general instructions; recognize needs and concerns of individuals within their cultural framework; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; accurately perform basic mathematical calculations; communication/interprets Shalom Health Care Center’s services and policies to patients and families; & work independently in the absence of supervision.
Available to work clinic schedule: Monday & Wednesday – 8a-5:30p; Tuesday & Thursday – 8a-7p; and Friday – 8a-1p (no weekend hours)

Employment offer contingent upon successful passing drug screen, criminal background check, immunization requirements, providing proper eligibility documentation to work in the United States (through the Federal eVerify Program) & successfully clears Office of Attorney General inspection verification.
