My Sisters’ Place is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in Westchester County, New York, that has grown from a grassroots task force and drop-in center formalized in 1978 into a cutting-edge leader and resource in the field of domestic violence and human trafficking advocacy and services. Our many programs include two emergency shelters, individual counseling and advocacy, children’s programs, support groups throughout Westchester, a legal center, self-sufficiency training, and an extensive community education and outreach program. The Senior Residential Advocate (8am-4pm) is responsible for overseeing the advocacy and case management needs of residents within the assigned emergency housing program, and for providing direct supervision to several Residential Advocates. As such, this position works as part of a team that includes advocates from all other shifts, a residential counselor, and administrative staff to ensure that residents’ emotional and practical needs are met and that shelter operations are in order to help support this work.
DUTIES
Manage Crisis Hotline providing guidance with all shelter staff to consider potential resident eligibility, to ensure appropriate steps are taken to address shelter occupancy, and to determine residents’ appropriateness for continued residency
Provide strong leadership skills as a supervisor with staff to ensure MSP’s mission is demonstrated in the Residential Program and provide regular supervision with Residential Advocates (f/t or p/t).
Co-Manage with Senior Residential Advocate (4-12) on staff scheduling and shift coverage while supporting the orderly operations of the residential program corporately
Adjust work hours or work additional hours as needed in order to supervise staff, attend resident house meetings or groups, or attend staff meetings
Lead Resident Advocacy/case management issues which must take place during business hours, including contact with outside organizations that can provide assistance to all residents. Begin all paperwork related to public benefits, OVS crime victim compensation, post-shelter housing, as well as paperwork related to shelter billing
Facilitate/Monitor shelter operations and work with Director of Operations to reporting structural or repair issues promptly. Also, ensure basic client needs and facility-related needs are met, generate work orders to address all identified maintenance issues, including supervising Maintenance worker, housekeeper, ordering food/household supplies, managing petty cash, and donations
Work as a team to ensure needs assessment, safety planning, and emotional support services are available on an on-going basis for all residents
Participate in regular shelter management team meetings and help facilitate regular shelter staff meetings; meetings include case conferencing, discussions on improving shelter practices, and staff development presentations
Ensure the collection of timely and accurate statistics on services provided and client information; compile reports.
Share on-call supervisory rotation for overnights and weekends throughout the year; required to stay close to home during assigned on-call rotations.
Train Residential Advocates in all aspects of their job responsibilities through the provision of one-on-one support and by identifying and requiring staff to attend trainings/workshops offered by MSP or outside the agency
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and public agencies to foster coordination of services for emergency shelter residents and their children;
Participate in trainings and/or professional development sessions as identified by supervisor and self
Assist with other duties and tasks as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; or two years college plus four years’ experience required.
Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred
Prior advocacy and/or case management experience required
Knowledge of victimization and domestic violence a plus, prior experience in a residential setting preferred.
Working knowledge of Excel and data software used for statically reports
Candidates should possess sound judgment and decision-making ability, as well as ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills must be a team player.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
