Visitor Experience Assistant Manager – Bay Area Discovery Museum – Sausalito, CA

POSITION SUMMARY
The Visitor Experience Assistant Manager is responsible for the supervision and management of the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s team of Educators, both paid and volunteer. This position is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and managing this team of education facilitators, assistants and coordinators. The Visitor Experience Assistant Manager coaches the team on visitor services, acts as the hub of information for museum happenings, and facilitates general visitor communication including visitor comment cards and feedback loop. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a regular work schedule of Tuesday-Saturday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration- 45%
• Recruit, hire, train and manage the paid Educator team, including Education Facilitators, Education Assistants and Education Coordinators.
• Schedule Educator team members and volunteers to meet the needs of the floor and other programs, including but not limited to school group visits, camps, paid and drop-in programs, offsite programming, and festivals.
• Manage timecards and staffing budget, visitor experience budget and order related supplies.
• Responsible for maintaining visitor comment feedback loop with staff and visitors.
• Ensure regular cleaning and maintenance of loose parts in exhibits by the Educator team.
• Track annual gallery visitor-ship and produce visitor reports based on data collected.

Training- 45%
• Train new team members and assist the Education team in designing and delivering ongoing training to Educators so that they can advance through the career ladder.
• Deliver ongoing feedback and evaluation for floor staff.
• Ensure that team interactions are based on the Museum’s educational philosophy and customer service standards.
• Lead daily floor meetings, contribute to and develop trainings on customer service, facilitation, and other front of house items.
• Keep track of museum happenings and accurately communicate them to the Educator team.

Facilitation- 10%
• As a key member of the Visitor Experience team, this person takes on regular shifts as a Duty Officer in order to ensure that visitor have a safe experience and they uphold the museum safety policies.
• Maintain a regular presence on the Museum floor to model for team members and provide them with regular feedback.
• Covers daily floor shifts and trained to facilitate Museum programs in case of emergency.
• Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a safe, friendly, and orderly environment.
• Maintain standards for inter-departmental communication.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• BA or BS, or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience working with children in an informal education setting.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.
• Ability to prioritize one’s own tasks and tasks of others.
• Outstanding coaching and motivational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor less experienced co-workers.
• Must be willing to shift work schedule frequently, work weekends and work overtime as needed.
• Able to work with a strong sense of urgency and have the ability to prioritize ever-changing work load
• Ability to use computer equipment required (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point,).
• Knowledge of excellent customer service principles.
• Early Childhood Education units and knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice for young children and families strongly preferred.
• Flexible, good-humored, team player.
• Must be trained or commit to being trained in First Aid, CPR and AED for adult, infant and child.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese strongly preferred.
