Workforce1 Retention / Re-engagement Specialist – Urban Upbound (East River Development Alliance) – Long Island City, NY

Founded in 2004, the mission of Urban Upbound is to provide residents of public housing neighborhoods the tools and resources needed to achieve economic mobility and self-sufficiency, and to break cycles of poverty. Urban Upbound advances its mission through five integrated programs: employment services, financial counseling, youth development/college and career access, and the Urban Upbound Federal Credit Union.

Urban Upbound is currently seeking a Retention/Re-engagement Specialist to provide clients with job advancement support, post placement verification, coordination of job clubs, and employer relationship building. The main goal of the Retention Specialist is to increase retention amongst clients through employment verification documents, relationship building amongst employer and employees, providing clients with assistance in addressing barriers to staying employed and advance within their current position. The expectation is that the Retention Specialist will provide excellent customer services and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include:

Analyze participants’ and employers’ feedback to develop new retention strategies designed to increase client retention.
Work with Career Counselors in implementing effective retention strategies and activities.
Build positive working relationships with employers to foster an ongoing business relationship.
Explain to employers about UU’s new services to support employees in addressing barriers to staying employed.
Develop after work events such as job clubs for clients to network.
Maintain post-placement contact with clients and provide job retention support with an emphasis on career advancement.
Working with Career Counselors, obtain verification and confirmation of all placements and retention milestones as required by contracts.
Generate reports as needed to better track placements and retention outcomes.
Collaborate with Career Counselors about any noticeable changes in jobseeker’s mood, attitude and appearance.
Relay any important information disclosed by job seekers to their assigned Career Counselor.
Basic administrative duties such as filing, printing resumes/job related documents, faxing resumes/job related materials and photocopying.
Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.

Qualifications:

An Associates from an accredited college is required; a Bachelor degree is preferred.
Previous experience in Workforce Development.
Excellent Customer Services Skills
Must be comfortable with public speaking and able to work with diverse groups of people
Ability to work with clients facing a multitude of barriers to employment.
Able to work effectively with a large client caseload and meet aggressive goals while maintaining composure.
Excellent time-management skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and find effective solutions before escalating technical problems to management.
Strong computer skills.
Honest, reliable and a quick learner.
