The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation’s most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.4 million members and online activists to protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Position Summary:
NRDC is building a new creative division within its New York office and is seeking a talented Art Director with strong branding and marketing knowledge to join the team. This Art Director will be directly responsible for developing branded marketing campaigns and institutional collateral for digital and print.
We’re looking for a creative visionary that will help shape and propel a new brand identity system that launched in January of 2015.
Responsibilities:
The Art Director will be directly responsible for developing concepts and executing designs that effectively communicate NRDC issues and inspire action. They will partner with a copywriter to develop branded campaigns and institutional collateral for print and web. This Art Director will be responsible for conceptual work, hands-on design, production, and directing designers and freelance design resources.
Qualifications:
4-year degree, BFA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years art direction and/or senior designer experience.
An exceptional portfolio of work showcasing attention to detail, branding and marketing expertise, and the ability to translate strategies into compelling digital and print work.
Expert knowledge of Adobe CS software.
Strong background in graphic design, typography, and interaction design.
Experience creating forward-thinking concepts across interactive and traditional media while maintaining corporate branding standards and delivering against creative briefs.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment, while juggling multiple projects at once.
You have the ability to present ideas in a way that inspires a cross-functional team.
A strong understanding of NRDC’s missions and goals; environmental or nonprofit experience a plus.
Light knowledge of motion design and After Effects is a plus but not required.
Willingness to travel as required.
