Arts-in-Education Program Director – Staten Island Arts – Staten Island, NY

The Arts-in-Education Director is responsible for all aspects of the program including administration of AIE re-granting programs for schools. The AIE director also coordinates Staten Island’s participation in the SU CASA program, a community-based arts education program for seniors run by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department for the Aging.

The Arts-in-Education Director provides individual technical assistance and coordinates or leads group workshops including the Staten Island Teaching Artist Institute/SI TAI), and grant application workshops. S/he also oversees special projects such as the Lark Fund (a community-based initiative to purchase musical instruments for schools), and occasional direct programming in schools as funding allows.

The Arts-in-Education Director will:

Review and update guidelines and application forms annually, reach out to schools, teaching artists, and arts organizations, and work with the Grants/Marketing Director to market the program;

Arrange, publicize and conduct application seminars, and advise individual applicants on proposal development;

Assemble grant-making panels, oversee the evaluation process, and notify applicants;

Assist Executive Director, Deputy Director, and development staff with applications and reports for AIE funding, and serve as liaison with AIE funders;

Conduct site visits for AIE regrants and SU CASA projects;

Plan SI TAI workshops and oversee logistics: Arrange workshop leaders, conduct outreach and marketing (with SIA Grants/Marketing Director), arrange space and tech needs, track rsvps and attendance.

Administer other AIE projects and adapt programs to meet the changing needs of Staten Island.

Qualifications

Strong communication skills in relating to people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to lead workshops and speak to groups.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Computer literate, and social media literate.

Strong writing and proofreading skills.

Willingness to travel to schools for meetings and site visits, and to attend events to promote the program.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred; Master’s degree a plus.

Background in arts education preferred, knowledge of NYC educational issues a plus.

Position is 3 days per week. Compensation is $27,000 annually.
