About the Job:

The Partnership for Children & Youth is seeking a full-time Campaign Coordinator to support our Policy Director in a wide variety of tasks and projects related to PCY’s leadership of a statewide advocacy campaign to increase the daily reimbursement rate paid to publicly-funded after school programs in California through the After School Education and Safety (ASES) program. Raising the rate to keep pace with significant increases in California’s cost of living and cost pressures created by changes in the minimum wage and other labor and employment laws, and building in mechanisms for the ongoing cost sustainability of these vital programs for low-income children and youth, will be a central point of focus for PCY’s policy agenda in 2015 and 2016. The Campaign Coordinator, reporting to the Policy Director, will provide primary logistical and organizing support for the campaign and its constituents. The campaign is anticipated to require approximately one year, although there is some possibility that the Coordinator position may be retained after this period if PCY’s policy goals and work plan require ongoing support. Immediate availability and location of candidate in or near Oakland or Sacramento are both strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities: In support of the overall scope of work indicated above, the Campaign Coordinator will perform a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

Manages contacts and engagement of policymakers, allies, and constituents:

Develops and maintains a master campaign list and various supporter lists in Salesforce.

Develops and maintains an updated master list of legislators and legislative staff, and tracks legislative support and engagement

Schedules and supports stakeholder and ally meetings and convenings

Conducts research and outreach to potential new organizational allies and collaborators

Helps to build the case for the ASES rate increase through data and analysis:

Assesses gaps or potential challenges to core campaign positions and arguments

Conducts research to solidify data and increase validity

Develops and manages the campaign’s communications infrastructure:

Drafts key messaging documents (e.g. fact sheets, talking points, program descriptions) for use throughout the campaign

Drafts and disseminates letters of support

Develops and maintains the campaign’s web presence:

* Identifies and serves as point of contact for web developer

* Works with PCY communications staff to develop and regularly update web content

Drafts and regularly distributes updates to campaign listserv

Drafts copy for blog posts, op-ed and various social media platforms

Supports PCY’s PR consultant in the campaign’s earned media strategy

Monitors and maintains the campaign’s social media presence across several projects and platforms, and supports PCY’s communications staff in executing the campaign’s overall social media strategy

Promote the campaign’s visibility and presence at major after school advocacy events, including production of materials for Lights On! Afterschool events and assistance developing policy focus and participant outreach for the Afterschool Challenge.

Coordinates convenings, meetings, focus groups, webinars, and conference calls for the campaign including site and platform selection and preparation, etc.

Identifies and supports emergent opportunities for visibility and advocacy, including tracking conference and public forum deadlines, coordinating speaker and presenter preparation, developing outreach materials, and making travel arrangements.

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years of relevant, progressive work experience in public policy/advocacy, communications support, constituent management or related field.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Ability to work in teams and across multiple organizational partners.

Flexibility, keen attention to detail, and ability to manage shifting priorities.

Experience working with diverse groups of people.

Familiarity with Office software, WordPress, Facebook and Twitter.

Commitment to the mission and values of the Partnership for Children & Youth.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in advocacy campaigns or in political settings (especially statewide California legislative contexts).

Working knowledge of constituent databases (particularly Salesforce).

Essential Functions:

Ability to travel (some local and out-of-town travel); Valid driver’s license
Ability to transport materials and set-up for meetings and conferences
