Associate Director of Communications – ReSurge International (formerly Interplast) – Sunnyvale, CA

ReSurge International (formerly Interplast) seeks a seasoned communications professional to help plan, coordinate and implement our communications strategies. Since 1969 with Stanford roots, ReSurge has built medical capacity and provided more than 105,000 surgeries in developing countries.

The associate director of communications will continually enhance and promote the ReSurge International brand and voice across integrated communication products, develop consistent and compelling content and build our audience. In addition, this role is responsible for maintaining brand alignment across a variety of audiences (internal and external) and digital channels.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

Content Creation and Production:

Develop compelling communications materials (content and design) that are on strategy and on brand.
Capture ReSurge’s impact by writing and/or coordinating stories/information from field offices, volunteers and departments.
Oversee and execute the organization’s electronic and print communications: newsletter, eNews, blog, annual report, fact sheets, social media content, web materials, videos, etc.
Create website content and maintain the organization’s website with current and accurate information.
Plan and conduct video interviews and post-produce short video documentaries.
Create a communications strategy calendar, in conjunction with ReSurge’s strategic plan, for year-round programming and events.
Manage relationships with design, print and creative vendors.

Audience Building:

Help identify new target audiences and develop messaging and content.
Maintain and deepen ReSurge’s social media presence and engagement.
Develop and execute email marketing optimization and list segmentation strategy.
Strengthen ReSurge’s visibility, outreach and audience growth and engagement.
Oversee the organization’s social and elite media strategy.

Monitoring:

Monitor and analyze social media influence and engagement.
Research and execute SEO strategies.
Evaluate and analyze communications efforts to measure impact, identify opportunities and implement improvements.

Education and Experience

3-5 years experience in public relations, media outreach, marketing or communications with specific skills in collateral (digital and print) production.
Bachelor’s degree required in communications, marketing, public policy, political science, international relations or related field.
Nonprofit experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML and video production software.
Proven ability to manage social media platforms, while fostering dialogue and engagement, and knowledge of online communications strategies and best practices, as well as media outreach.
Exposure to and/or interest in international development and global health field.
Experience directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
Ability to synthesize ideas and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time and take initiative
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communications skills, as well as strong information gathering and analytical skills.
Ability to work with wide range of individuals and cultures.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, time management, and problem solving skills.
Ability to work successfully under pressure and to handle competing priorities with minimal supervision.
Willingness to travel to occasionally participate on ReSurge international trips and events around the US.
Special events planning and logistics coordination experience helpful.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to four hours at a time.
Ability to sit for up to three hours without breaks at meetings.
Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
Regular, predictable attendance.
