The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network, a 501(c)(3) corporation working as the voice for victims and the professionals who serve them for the last 30 years, is currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will be able to aggressively implement a strategic fund development plan for the agency, have knowledge about the needs of victims of crime, work collaboratively with allied professionals, and have the experience necessary to manage our grant-funded programs.

The CEO is responsible for the overall effective operation and administration of SCVAN and its eight full-time professionals in accordance with its mission and vision. The CEO’s responsibilities also include the implementation of a strategic fund development plan for the agency. The CEO advocates regularly with the media and collaborative partners, serving as the primary spokesperson for the agency.

Position

Chief Executive Officer for the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN)

Job Description

The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN) is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will be able to aggressively implement a strategic fund development plan for the agency, be knowledgeable about the needs of survivors of crime, be able to work collaboratively with and serve as resource to allied professionals and have the experience necessary to manage our grant-funded programs and team of eight full-time professionals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

Proven track record of success raising money from individuals, foundations, and corporations

Proven track record in grant writing and grant management.

Five or more years experience successfully managing a non-profit organization.

Proven track record in working with survivors of crime and/or allied professionals.

Experience in collaborating and networking with allied professionals.

Must be able to make public presentations to groups, counsel individuals and maintain confidentiality of victim information.

Supervisory/

Administrative Responsibilities

Directly supervises a business manager, at least four program managers and other support personnel.

Support the work of the SCVAN Board of Directors

Ensure that agency phone and computer systems are adequately maintained and backed up to meet program needs and comply with applicable legal and ethical requirements.

Job Duties

1) Fiscal/Fundraising: Work with financial officer to prepare and submit annual budget. Negotiate all contracts, income sources, partnerships, salaries, and personnel benefit packages. Sign all checks, reimbursement requests, travel and leave requests, Request for Payments from grantors, and timesheets. Write grants, manage grants, and direct other fundraising activities. Develop and implement fundraising strategy. Donor development.

2) Victims’ Rights Week: Collaborate with SC State Office of Victim Assistance (SOVA) Director and staff. SCVAN CEO and SOVA Director will oversee committee work. Work with financial officer to determine final revenue and expenses. Report financial and programmatic data to Board. Prepare action report to Board.

3) Board: Follow all policies and by-laws. Ensure staff carries out policies and procedures as set by Employee Handbook and Board. Prepare agendas, schedules and Minutes of Board meetings. Strategic planning. Board development

4) Staff: Hire/supervise all staff. Maintain all personnel policies and files. Approve travel and leave requests. Prepare and conduct annual personnel evaluations.

5) Advocacy: Advocate regularly with the media, collaborative partners, and the legislature. Serve as the primary spokesperson for SCVAN (public speaking engagements). Coordinate and provide public outreach events and social media presence. Coordinate staff and volunteers tasked with providing education, technical assistance and referrals regarding victims’ rights and services.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Expertise

Computer skills: Must be able to operate a personal computer and have professional proficiency the use of Microsoft Word and Excel; Quickbooks; Gmail; Dropbox and use of the internet.

Proficient in use of various grant management and reporting software and online platforms.

Strong work ethic, integrity, high energy and excellent listening and relational skills.

Must have strong communication (written & verbal) skills.
