Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy
Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy, based in San Pablo, CA, is an innovative and prolific arts organization amplifying the roots of Mexican-American culture through our classes, events, media production and performances.
Los Cenzontles has been breaking cultural barriers and creating innovative, groundbreaking programming for twenty-five years. The organization has attracted attention and strong support from major philanthropists as well as celebrities such as Linda Ronstadt, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), and Jackson Browne, among many others. It has an excellent reputation with Bay Area and national funders and is nearing completion of a $2.2 million capital campaign. As a leading voice for the importance of incorporating cultural arts in community building and youth development, placing artists in core leadership roles and supporting working class culture, its Executive Director is regularly invited to speak at regional and national conferences and is helping to shape the national dialogue around culture and the equitable dispersal of resources.
Los Cenzontles seeks a high-energy manager and innovative, entrepreneurial thinker as its next Chief Operating Officer who wants to build on the organization’s success and play an integral part in moving the organization forward into the next stage of its development.
Job Overview:
Provide oversight and day-to-day management of all areas of organizational operations. Work with Executive Director to develop, communicate, and monitor institutional planning and policies. Develop (with Executive Director and staff) fundraising, communications, development and organizational marketing strategies. Coordinate, write, research and market LC cultural outreach and consultancy products. Serve as primary contact for various stakeholders, including board, contract grant-writer, finance and business consultants, individual donors, select foundation donors, etc.
Areas of responsibility include (but are not limited to):
Management and supervision of staff and contractors
Project/calendar management
Financial oversight
Development-plan management
Individual donor cultivation (with the Executive Director)
Organizational marketing planning, writing, marketing and oversight
Staff liaison to capital-expansion project
Strategic planning and board relations (with Executive Director)
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and marketing
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
Ability to balance attention to detail with big-picture thinking
Ability to multi-task in a deadline‐driven environment
Able to provide leadership within a team, arts programming driven structure
Culturally sensitive
Strong creative problem-solving skills
Core computer skills in Word and Excel
This position is full time and requires some travel.
