Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange Consultant – EcoAdapt – Los Angeles, CA

Job Type: Contract, hourly (approx. 20 hours/week). Compensation is commensurate with abilities and experience.

Duration: This is a grant-funded position through December 2015, with the possibility of extension.

EcoAdapt is seeking an entry-level consultant to support the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE; CAKEx.org). This position will work closely with the CAKE Program Manager to support the CAKE website by assisting with user relations, content development, and website functionality. CAKE is an online community website that supports managers, planners, and practitioners as they work to prepare for and respond to climate change. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a robust, revolutionary web platform built specifically for people looking to address the challenges of climate change; regularly interact with climate adaptation practitioners through membership engagement and outreach; and gain valuable experience in a burgeoning field.

EcoAdapt is a distributed organization with team members located throughout the United States who work primarily from home offices. However, this position is based in the Los Angeles metro area, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

CAKE User Relations and Outreach

Monitor all incoming email and triage and reply to user questions related to website and other issues
Community building, networking, and outreach to existing and potential users
Develop and format monthly Slice of CAKE newsletter
Manage and update CAKE social media accounts and content

CAKE Content Management

Support content expansion by finding relevant information and working with CAKE Content Editor to determine appropriateness for inclusion in CAKE
Provide general database management by uploading relevant content to different sections of CAKE
Work closely with CAKE staff to maintain and expand the Directory and Community sections
Coordinate and organize a webinar series highlighting CAKE content

CAKE Website Functionality

Support CAKE staff by testing new and reviewing existing functionality, noting issues and discrepancies

Qualifications

Required skills/experience:

Proficient computer skills and prior experience or aptitude with Internet applications such as email newsletter management systems and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter).
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently from home (e.g., internet access, phone). Preference given to those with telecommuting experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work fluidly within a project team.
Highly motivated self-starter with excellent time management skills, the ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple demands and deadlines.
English speaking and comprehension fluency.
Bachelor’s degree required.

Additional Skills/experience:

Knowledge of and/or interest in climate change and adaptation
Knowledge of/experience with Drupal

Contractor Availability

The Contractor must be available for in-person weekly meetings. Contractor may simultaneously engage in other business; however, Contractor shall not engage in any other business that creates a conflict of interest with the duties of the position.

The Contractor must provide and maintain a suitable workspace with modern information technology hardware and software, high-quality telecommunications equipment (e.g., landline phone or cell phone), and a consistent broadband Internet connection. Dial up and tethering (e.g., via smartphone) is not acceptable as a regular internet connection solution.
