Agency Description:

Seven Tepees Youth Program is a non-profit, community based youth development and college access organization that provides comprehensive services to low income youth grades 6th-12th. Through the programs we offer our youth, we supplement their lives with the building blocks that will help them create positive successful futures for themselves, including social competency skills, academic skills, healthy self-esteem, role modeling, and exposure to new options and possibilities. Our Learning Center Program includes After-school Tutoring and Enrichment, Outdoor Education, Mentoring, Job Training and Community Service Activities for approximately 90 youth and families. Our College & Career Program provides college and career advising services at 3 sites: International Studies Academy, Mission High School and at the Seven Tepees Learning Center. The College & Career Program creates a college-going culture at each site and provides direct college access programming.

Our mission is to work with urban youth entrusted to our care to foster the skills they need to make lifelong positive choices and to create their own opportunities for success. The name Seven Tepees represents the diversity of the seven continents as well as the Native American tradition of connection to nature and care of the land.

College & Career Program Coordinator Description:

The College & Career Program Coordinator will be placed at a San Francisco Unified School District High School under the supervision of the College & Career Program Manager and with the support of the High School’s administrative team. The College & Career Program Coordinator will be a key player of a high school college and career advising center as well as the Seven Tepees after-school program. Work hours will vary depending on the day of the week between 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There are occasional evening parent meetings and other outreach activities required.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Program Implementation: Work with the College & Career Program Manager to ensure that goals across all three sites are met in the following program components: one-on-one advising, summer engagement, in-classroom workshops, biannual showcase events. Additionally,

Individual Student Planning and Monitoring:

Assist 11th and 12th grade students in cultivating a sense of purpose by declaring and working toward his/her dream through the one-one-one intake sessions and in-classroom workshops.

With the guidance of the school site partner, continuously assess student data and provide meaningful interventions to ensure that students develop skills necessary to navigate their post-secondary plans.

School and Community Outreach and Engagement:

Lead strong collaborations with other key school positions such as: counselors, teachers, administrators, other CBOs.

Lead a strong community partnership effort, representing Seven Tepees at events intended to build the capacity of youth and program.

Lead/Support two college and/or career focused events a year (fall/summer) in collaboration with school site staff and administration.

Support in recruitment for rising 13th grade summer programs.

College Now! Program Coordination

Lead the College Now! Program, a non-credit CCSF course for current High School students 2 days/week after school.

Track student attendance, participation, test scores

Maintain and monitor student enrollment and records

Plan and lead 1 parent night and 1 college tour/semester for group

Event and Trip Planning

Support the planning and implementation of all trips/events at partner school site.

Support and attend Learning Center outdoor trips throughout the year (2 trips/year)

Support and attend Learning Center Events including: Gratitude Meal, Winter Celebration, Spring Break Trips, and Graduation/Transition Ceremony.

Qualifications:

The College and Career Program Coordinator must embrace the Seven Tepees vision of transforming low-income communities into places where high school graduation and college readiness are the norms. Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

Minimum 4-year college degree

Demonstrated success in motivating and managing high school students to meet high expectations in youth development, experiential learning, and/or service learning

Demonstrated ability to cultivate and leverage resources to achieve outcomes

Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, the recruitment and retention of key personnel, ability to lead a staff team and effectively facilitate meetings

Results-driven; commitment to utilizing data to take informed action

High degree of flexibility and adaptability; can work within and thrive in an ambitious, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solution

Strong learning orientation (e.g. constantly learns on one’s own, exhibits strong self-awareness of and initiative to develop one’s growth areas, accepts and promptly incorporates feedback)

Exceptional organizational skills; keen attention to detail; time management and follow-up skills

Ability to work effectively with youth, staff, parents, volunteers and board members of diverse backgrounds (economic, racial, cultural, linguistic, religious, ability, sexual orientations, genders, educational abilities, etc)

Valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record

Ability to get a Class B Driver’s License

Spanish fluency strongly preferred

This is a sensitive position; fingerprinting will be required.
