Exciting opportunity to grow the communications department for a national organization recognized for its leadership in shaping policy, reforming public systems and building the capacity of communities. The Center for the Study of Social Policy translates research and new ideas into strategies for on-the-ground implementation. We use the knowledge from those real experiences to better inform the next generation of ideas, programs and policies. Effective and strategic communications is critical to achieving that goal. This position is designed for an enthusiastic and energetic self-starter who has ideas to share. You will be part of a small team, working across all program areas of the organization to support, strategize and disseminate information and messages. You will have the chance to help build and strategize around social media, email marketing, website development (and probably a lot more).
Must haves:
Strong interest in social policy, particularly in creating pathways out of poverty, reforming child welfare systems and revitalizing neighborhoods
Commitment to equity – working to reduce disparities based on race, ethnicity, sovereignty, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity and socioeconomics
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Emerging and/or growing skills in multimedia design for web, email marketing, social media and video
Understanding of public relations and communications fundamentals
Understanding of how media and communications strategies advance an agenda for social change
Detail-oriented team player spirit with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work well under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities will include:
Day-to-day website management
Expanding and maintaining social media profiles (increase user engagement and create quality messages that encourage activity and recommend current and emerging technologies to support organization goals)
Managing and analyzing email database
Crafting, formatting and disseminating multiple email campaigns
Integrating other online presences including social media outlets with email campaigns
Creating and managing editorial calendar
Evaluating web trends and activities of visitors to the site to optimize the user experience and develop strategies to expand the user base (Google Analytics)
Designing – create and customize branded PowerPoint and other Word suite tools and materials for variety of program staff
Assuring that organizational products have clear, concise content
Assisting with strategic plan development
Assisting with press statements, advisories, newsletters, op-eds and other materials
Monitoring media and seeking out strategic opportunities to aggressively engage in rapid media response
Reviewing and editing small form communication
Working with other teams to help generate content for multiple forward-facing products
Provide coverage and take photos at events, hearings, and meetings
Strategize, create and manage internal communications plan
General support to the Communications Director
