Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund seek a motivated communications manager to play a lead role in implementing advocacy campaigns to protect clean water in California by conducting internal and external communications activities. Clean Water Action is anational organization working for clean, safe and affordable water, prevention of health-threatening pollution, creation of environmentally-safe jobs and businesses, and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean Water Fund conducts research and pubic education and organizes grassroots coalitions and campaigns to protect the environment, public health, and local communities.
Primary responsibilities:
Organize press conferences, tele-conferences, other public events and earned media activities to publicize issues and promote specific campaign objectives
Establish and maintain relationships with media contacts and communications staff at external partner organizations
Track media coverage of water and related environmental issues
Develop a monthly online California water issues news bulletin
Coordinate the production of a bi-monthly newsletter
Develop and manage social media and other web-based communications strategies and content
Manage the development of websites for coalitions Clean Water Action leads, post content, and provide online communications support
Research and write articles, op-eds, blog posts, fact sheets, and other materials to support the organization’s major campaigns
Develop content for the organization’s website and update as needed
Develop and maintain media lists and other related contacts
Provide communications support for fundraising events
Assist with foundation and donor communications
Participate with the national communications team
Work with the National Director of Communications as needed (with a focus on California)
Carry out other duties as directed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
At least four years of work experience in media relations, journalism, or political and/or advocacy communications
Comfort working under pressure with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Well organized, good attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
Strong oral communication and excellent writing skills
Fluency in Spanish preferred
Ability to research and understand complex and unfamiliar subjects
Demonstrates genuine passion for environmental issues
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Google docs, Excel, social media
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Productive, hardworking, and reliable; able to meet deadlines and complete assignments on time
