Communications Manager – Innovation Africa – New York, NY

Innovation: Africa is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that brings Israeli innovation to African villages. Founded in 2008, in seven years Innovation: Africa has provided light, clean water, food and proper medical care to more than 720,000 people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda and the DRC.

Reporting to Innovation: Africa’s Founder & CEO, Innovation: Africa currently seeks an independent, dynamic and passionate self-motivator to join our team as the Communications Manager.

The Communications Manager will set and guide the strategy for all communications including marketing, website, mass email, social and digital media, as well as donor cultivation/stewardship in order to consistently articulate Innovation: Africa’s mission and engage the supporters that make our work possible. The Communications Manager will work closely across departments, as well as with Innovation: Africa’s donor-base.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and execute the annual marketing and communications plan in collaboration with iA’s Creative Director;
Establish iA’s voice on social and digital media, and post across social media channels daily;
Provide copy for mass emails, donor newsletters, print and digital media ads, website and key internal documents such as marketing materials and annual report;
Develop and manage iA’s annual donor cultivation plan, manage internal monthly team calls, and cultivate/ steward donors accordingly (from major donors to grassroots fundraisers);
Work with Africa programs team to allocate projects to foundations, campaigners, and donors;
Craft donor reports and project updates for iA donors and project sponsors;
Manage iA’s peer to peer fundraising platform, Causevox;
Serve as point person for all interested in learning about iA, and present about our work at conferences, schools and institutions as needed;
Mentor and manage all interns.

Expectations, Experience and Abilities

A genuine love of the work. This is not an easy job, and we’re looking for people willing to work hard in support of our cause.
Have previous experience in fundraising, marketing and/or in the non-profit sector.
Possess a strong attention to detail and extraordinary organizational skills. Efficiency and productivity are key attributes for this position.
Have a high level of integrity and strong work ethic. We are looking for someone who will take initiative and not only maintain current systems, but improve upon them.
Are comfortable working independently to manage a diverse range of tasks, while working collaboratively as part of an international team.
Are able to train and manage interns to help with your work.

Strong writing and communication skills.
Work well with both Macs and PCs, find Word and Excel to be a breeze, and are able to easily learn new systems.
BA Required, MA Preferred.
