Our Mission: Hack the Hood provides real-world, hands-on learning opportunities and mentorship that help low-income youth of color learn the skills and form the relationships they need to chart a course towards 21st century careers in online technology and social media.
Our Program: In our 6-week boot camps, youth receive training in basic computer skills, web marketing and promotion, search engine optimization (SEO), and website development, which they then use to build mobile-responsive web sites and listings for real small business clients from their own communities.
Organizational Goals: 2015 marks the start of a major expansion for Hack the Hood as we scale our model into 3 new cities (Richmond, San Francisco and East Palo Alto) and double our efforts in Oakland.
Job Summary: The Community Manager will be responsible for managing programming and communications within the Hack the Hood community of students, partners, volunteers, mentors and strategic partners throughout the Bay Area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and manage the development of all organizational programming related to skill development, mentor/volunteer/youth engagement, strategic partnerships and capacity building
Produce and coordinate workshops, webinars, peer-to-peer support networks, socials, and other events – designed to promote learning and networking
Share resources with community through a regular web, social media and face to face communications
Coordinate community feedback through formal mechanisms such as surveys as well as informal conversations.
Coordinate due diligence and vetting of new partners, mentors and volunteers as needed
Support Hack the Hoods evaluation framework, including reporting and monitoring overall progress
Work closely with the Programming and Executive teams to identify goals that support program management tasks and activities.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date administrative records on Salesforce and in our electronic and paper files.
Additional responsibilities and tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
3-5 years directly relevant experience. Work in a non-profit, start-up and or tech context is highly desirable.
Knowledge and experience working with youth in low-income communities of color
Experience building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with community organizations local small business and corporations
Experience managing effective programs
Experience with public speaking and training/workshop facilitation.
Excellent management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
Strong evaluation skills, including ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative information.
Good verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of writing program reports.
Excellent teamwork skills and experience managing interns and/or other volunteers.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, website editing software, and social media.
