New Hope Housing, a MISSION DRIVEN, established, respected, and innovative nonprofit serving homeless single adults and families in Northern Virginia, is looking for an exceptional individual to provide supervision of staff and program at the Falls Church Winter Shelter Program. This is a Temporary Full Time Position running from November to end of April.
A minimum shelter with 14 beds to help individuals who may otherwise sleep outside during the winter months. A Hypothermia style program. Meals are provided by local church groups. Residents begin to come “home” around 5 p.m. and are made to feel welcomed by providing a hot meal, shower, and board games or T.V. After a safe nights sleep residents leave early the next morning after breakfast and the shelter home is closed for the day.
Falls Church Winter Shelter Coordinator– Full Time Seasonal Position Responsible for the successful operation of our FCWS program.
Hire, train, and supervise Resident Services Specialists, develop staff schedules, cover the 4 to midnight shift, and perform intakes. Therefore, the hours for this positon is usually 4 to midnight Monday thru Friday with some daytime hours needed for meetings on occasion.
Successfully represent New Hope Housing at meetings with City of Falls Church Human Services, Friends of Falls Church Board meetings (between October-April), Track data and complete monthly reports for the Friends of Falls Church and City of Falls Church Human Services.
Provide daily updates to the Shelter Director for weekly telephone conference with the OPEH, complete end of season evaluations on RSS staff
Provide on-call coverage for FCWS (phone provided by OPEH)
Meet with RSS staff for supervision , Review RSS staff documentation on a daily basis (including shift reports, intake paperwork, etc.)
Ensure a safe and manageable living environment for the shelter residents. Monitor residential areas, is visible and interacts regularly and informally with shelter residents.
On call to cover shifts as needed. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, with reliable transportation and the ability to serve as essential personnel during weather emergencies.
Seasonal position starting on or about Nov 20th, and ending on or about the first week of April 9th. Reports to the Kennedy Shelter Residential Coordinator. $18 an hour
Position requires proven successful experience working with hard to serve individuals finding themselves without a home, mental illness/substance abuse issues, and somewhat resistant to services. Must have a drivers license and own transportation. Comfortable with computers (email, Word, Excel) Flexible schedule for evening meetings, events, and activities. Committment to our mission!
