ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:
KIPP DC is a network of high-performing, college-preparatory charter schools in Washington D.C. which serve the city’s under-resourced communities in Wards 5, 6, 7 and 8. At KIPP DC, there are no shortcuts: outstanding educators, more time in school, a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and a strong culture of achievement and support help our students make significant academic gains and continue to excel in high school and college. KIPP DC currently operates fifteen high-performing charter schools that serve students in grades PreK3 through twelve. In 2015, we will open up a new middle school, Valor Academy, at our Blaine Campus. At capacity, our schools will serve more than 6,000 students.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Data Specialists are responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting on school- and district-level student data, assessment data, and other organizational data. Data Specialists are also responsible for implementing data management functions that streamline performance between the school sites and headquarters, while at the same time drafting analytical reports and presentations that will successfully mine student and teacher data and drive decision-making and instructional practices. Data Specialists are primarily based at one of KIPP DC’s school campuses, and this position will work closely with our school leaders and headquarters staff. The Data Specialists report to the Managing Director of Data and Analytics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and manage student, teacher and organizational data at the school- and campus-level related to student assessments, academics, attendance, and behavior data to inform instructional practices and organizational decisions
Conduct analytical work on outputs from KIPP DC’s student information system, student assessments, teacher evaluations, data warehouse, and other organizational data platforms
Assist with the coordination and administration of school level assessments
Use real-time data dashboards and platforms to provide rigorous analyses and support for strategic decisions school and headquarters levels
Train and coach teachers and staff on using data tools and information systems to drive instruction
Work with school leaders and other departments to plan and prioritize short-term and long-term analytics needs
Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP DC’s staff, including opportunities to assist with student recruitment and enrichment activities, supporting school-level operations and assessment administration as needed, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP DC’s mission
REQUIRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
A bachelor’s degree
Outstanding project management and organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail
Experience working with multiple stakeholders, partners, and audiences
Results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
Strong analytic, strategic, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
Experience as a teacher or in the education or non-profit fields is a plus

Flexibility, tenacity, high quality work, resourcefulness, teamwork, and a sense of humor
OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS:
Advanced skills with MS Excel
Experience training and communicating data and analytics products to audiences of varying levels of expertise
Experience programming in data analysis software (i.e. SQL, R, Stata, SPSS)
Experience with data reporting and dashboarding tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlikview)
Experience with data modeling and multivariate analysis
