Developer – Byte Back – Washington, DC

Over the last 18 years, Byte Back has positively impacted thousands of lives – from the older students who send an email for the first time to individuals who earn certifications and build meaningful careers. Byte Back plays a vital role in helping those most vulnerable attain economic independence and stability through digital access training and customized career pathways. We are looking for a passionate, community-minded individual with superior sales and relationship management skills to join our team.

Position Overview: The Job Developer is a full-time position dedicated to assisting Byte Back students and graduates with finding employment, with strong priority placed on finding full-time, permanent jobs which pay a living wage with benefits and opportunities for advancement. This position focuses on cultivating and maintaining relationships with employer partners and working one-on-one with Byte Back students.

The Job Developer will work very closely with the Director of IT Academy, who supervises this position, as well as the Career Development Specialist and the Certification Programs Administrator.

Essential Functions

Job Development 40%

Conduct extensive outreach to potential employers in the IT and Administrative Support field to market certification graduates for open positions
Maintain up-to-date records on employer outreach efforts for tracking, follow up
Develop employer contacts with private and public sectors to ascertain employer needs and educate employers on what Byte Back graduates can provide in the workforce
Match student skills, aptitude and abilities to prospective employment openings and make referrals to secure job placement
Maintain a pool of employment and internship opportunities and share this information weekly with students via the weekly Job Leads e-newsletter
Coordinate industry-specific workshops for students and employer visits for certification classes

Coaching and Training 40%

Meet one-on-one with certification students to discuss career path, tailor resume and cover letters to industry, help deal with employment barriers, develop targeted job search, and conduct mock interviews
Provide motivation with positive reinforcement and strong follow-up to keep certification students engaged in the job search process until a job is secured
Maintain up-to-date records on student efforts/interactions, progress and development needs in accordance with the program and funding requirements
Follow up and track student retention at the following intervals: hire date, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days

Teaching/Other 20%

Help teach job readiness sessions on interview preparation and executing a targeted job search
Develop “Hire a Byte Back Graduate” web page complete with student success stories to advertise to potential employers
Assist with outreach and recruitment activities as assigned to recruit potential employers and/or students. Attend job fairs and meetings as delegated by the Director of IT Academy
Constantly update personal knowledge of best practices, trends and local opportunities for topics relevant to the job function by reading articles, attending trainings, participating in community meetings and other activities as available
Submit monthly and annual reports to Director
Collect employment verification letters as proof of client job placement
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

A deep commitment to serving disadvantaged individuals and a passion for helping others to achieve their employment goals
Bachelor’s degree
Two or more years demonstrated experience in the workforce development field or in a related sales role with documented success
Proven ability to match candidates with sustainable jobs
Familiarity with occupations in the IT and Business Support Professional (Administrative) fields
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others
Proficiency with managing and maintaining data to coordinate student and employer information and maintain job leads bank
