Position: Development and Communications Manager

Reports to: Vice-President, Development and Communications

Department: Development and Communications

The Development and Communications Manager is responsible for working closely with the Vice-President, Development and Communications, in the planning, implementing, administration, and evaluation of all fundraising activities, including: individual giving, foundation, corporate, and government support, special events and communications.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Fundraising

Identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government
Develop fundraising strategies and coordinate all development research
Develop and manage special events; develop and produce communications materials and publications; planned giving
Attend assigned meetings with City Council Member representatives
Maintain close relationship with lobbying firm in order to maximize government funding

Communications

Assist with public relations management
Assist with media relations management
Develop and produce communications materials and publications

Management

Effectively communicate the organization’s goals
Ensure reliable tracking measures and reporting systems
Performs tasks as assigned by Vice-President, Development and Communications and President

Knowledge and Skills Required

Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of four years experience
Ability to identify, cultivate and sustain lasting relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations
Ability to cultivate donors; expand and grow the donor base
Record of accomplishment in development
Solid understanding of the New York philanthropic community
A bias for action and goal orientation
Passion for mission of the organization
Strong communications skills, both written and verbal and the ability to make the organization’s mission compelling to donors
Attention to detail is required.
Strong computer skills (on both Mac and PC); fluent in Excel and Word; comfortable using databases
Ability to be extremely organized and manage multiple tasks
Ability to work closely with all departments of the organization
Good problem solving skills
Experience creating collateral materials from design to production (invitations, newsletters, flyers, etc.)
Familiarity with grant writing process
