Pacific Environment seeks to protect the living environment of the Pacific Rim by strengthening local community leadership and championing environmental justice in Russia, China, the Arctic, and elsewhere on the Pacific Rim. We complement this work with sophisticated policy advocacy at international finance and governance institutions. With a 28-year history of achievement and a staff of 10, Pacific Environment focuses on marine, energy/climate, and rivers/watershed protection issues

*Internship Description:

We are looking for a dynamic intern interested in social and environmental justice, conservation, and international development to join our small, high-energy team. You will assist with our communications and fundraising work and provide operations and administrative support.

This is a hands-on position with plenty of opportunity to take part in meaningful work. Candidates will gain experience in organizational fundraising, including foundation and government grants and individual giving; communications outreach; and non-profit administration.

The internship is 20-30 hours per week and work days are flexible. Our office is conveniently located in downtown San Francisco; it is only a five minute walk to the BART (subway) station and is on many bus lines; we also accommodate bicycle commuting.

*Responsibilities:

Assist with donor research and develop prospect profiles
Enter data and help maintain Salesforce contact-management database, also list and contact management
Produce written and visual content for website, blog, and Facebook
Create library of (free) images
Help research technology, administrative, and finance-related matters
Assist with day-to-day operations: work with vendors, run errands, and otherwise help with all office logistics
Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as directed

*Qualifications:

Available to work 20-30 hours a week
Bachelor’s degree or current grad/undergraduate student
Previous experience working in administrative, operations, development, or communications capacity in a professional environment a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel
Skilled in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and WordPress
Experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems strongly preferred
Experience using Salsa a plus
Knowledge of best practices for social media and blogging
Must be comfortable editing documents, drafting communications, and conducting phone outreach
Demonstrated excellent English writing skills
Proactive team player with eye for detail and high-level organizational skills
Successful track record of setting priorities, shaping processes, and executing quickly and effectively
Demonstrated interest in social justice and the environment
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, maturity, and confidence a must
Must be based in San Francisco, CA for the duration of the internship

*Application:

The internship is unpaid, and students receiving course credit are preferred. The internship runs from mid-June through August/September and offers the opportunity for extended year-round, summer, or semester engagement. It requires a minimum of 20 hours per week.
