The right person for our Development Manager Program position has a proven track record in development and communications, exemplary interpersonal and donor relation skills, and is passionate about helping transform our community through the power of coaching, consulting and capacity building for nonprofits. This position ensures the overall strategic growth and sustainability of ESC by enhancing our development and outreach program, and communications initiatives. This position is flexible by design and may be either full or part-time based on experience with grant writing.

What Does The Day-to-Day Look Like?

The Development Manager is an integral member of ESC’s team and works closely with the President/CEO in the development and implementation of the annual strategic fundraising plan in support of ESC’s transformational programs. In addition to managing all aspects of the fundraising strategy, s/he fosters the voice of ESC by developing and overseeing creative and dynamic marketing and communications initiatives. Position supervises the Development and Communications Coordinator and potentially a contracted Grant Writer.

Major Responsibilities

Manages all aspects of fund development, donor relations, communications and marketing.

Oversees, implements and manages solicitation, cultivation and stewardship activities for corporations, foundations and individual contributors.
Leads the foundation and corporate grants program including prospect research, proposal writing, grant submission, stewardship, and reporting activities.
Supports and/or conducts ESC’s internal fund development training.
Monitors, tracks, evaluates and reports on ESC fundraising activities and trends to ensure that fundraising goals are being achieved.
Collaborates with staff, board and other ESC volunteers to ensure that a strong level of knowledge and culture of fund development and philanthropy thrives throughout the organization.
Provides strategic guidance and oversight of ESC’s communications, marketing materials and publications (newsletters, e-blasts, fundraising/appeal letters, annual report, etc.)
Initiates and orchestrates a dynamic social media campaign to engage and enlighten the community on the impact of ESC’s programs and volunteers.
Collaborates with program staff to provide outreach for new and ongoing programs, and to enhance ESC’s presence and stature within the Los Angeles philanthropic, civic and nonprofit community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and formal grantsmanship training preferred
Minimum of three years related experience
Successful track record in one or more of the following areas: fund development, grant writing, prospect research, stewardship, communications and marketing

Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills which foster positive interest for the organization, and effective and professional relationships with high level and high profile organizational leaders
Strong connection to community and the ESC mission

Affinity for working both independently and collaboratively
Highly organized and flexible, with superior attention to detail
Self-starter and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines
Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, diplomacy and commitment to confidentiality

High proficiency in MS Office Suite, database management, and the internet

Salary

Based on experience. Generous benefits package, including health, dental, life, 403b program, paid holidays, sick and vacation time.
