Position Title: Development Manager/ Grant Writer

Department: Community and Fund Development

Reports to: Vice President, Development & Community Affairs

Summary:

Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay seeks an individual committed to its mission of helping low-income and others facing barriers to employment acquire the skills and support they need to become self-sufficient. We seek an energetic, self-motivated, and very detail-oriented grant-writer and fundraising manager to help us sustain and grow our foundation, corporate, and individual giving programs. Candidate should have a documented background in grant-writing, direct mail solicitation, and donor database management as well as be able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Increase overall development activities through growth and maintenance of grant opportunities, direct mail program, and corporate giving.
Research foundation and corporate funding opportunities. Draft and edit grant proposals and reports in accordance with donor guidelines. Prepare and report on grant budgets.
Manage direct mail program, including drafting ask letters, tracking donor activity, administering donor database, and providing donor correspondence.
Help plan and coordinate events, such as open houses, fundraising dinner, and other outreach activities.
Assist in writing and editing articles for newsletters, content for the agency’s website, and other communications materials.
Support other development department activities as needed, including major donor and community outreach work.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in development required. Must possess strong interpersonal and grant-writing skills. Ability to work with diverse community members and the public, as well as senior staff and a volunteer Board of Directors, required.
Documented success in securing grants and corporate contributions from local funders. Background in direct mail and demonstrated ability to maintain a donor database.
Strong project management, writing, presentation, and research skills. Attention to detail a must. Ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines required.
Strong technology and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with managing donor databases required. Sage 50 Fundraising, WordPress, Publisher, and other software proficiency a plus.

Core Competencies:

Experience and success in securing foundation, corporate, and individual donor funding for community programs.
Ability to manage all aspects of direct mail program, including working with consultants, drafting letters, overseeing budgets, and maintaining accurate donor information for mailings.
Excellent communication skills, including writing and editing proposals, solicitation letters, and agency collateral. Comfort with public speaking and experience providing mission-related educational presentations a plus.
Ability to work on a wide-range of projects with minimal supervision and with a diverse audience, including senior staff, Board Directors, program participants, and other stakeholders required.

Special Skills or Abilities:

Inside work requiring prolonged sitting and working at a computer work-station. Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. The position will be based out of our Oakland headquarters, which is located in the Fruitvale District and within walking distance to BART. Requires some travel within assigned service area, which is primarily Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties.Compensation & Benefits: Permanent position with an annual starting salary of up to $60,000, depending on experience. Eligible for partially-sponsored healthcare benefits and vacation, sick, and holiday time off.
