InnovateEDU’s mission is to eliminate the achievement gap by accelerating innovation in Common Core-aligned, next generation school models and learning tools that serve, inform, and enhance teaching and learning. InnovateEDU partners with Brooklyn Laboratory Charter High School (LAB) to provide organizational and operational support that enables LAB to accomplish its mission and pursue growth. LAB is an open enrollment, college-preparatory, public charter school in Brooklyn, NY that will open to serve its first class of 9th graders in 2016. LAB’s mission is to prepare students with the academic foundation, digital literacy, and leadership skills necessary to succeed in college and professional life as they grow as ethical leaders. LAB is designed to educate high-need urban students, particularly those who are least well served by their current educational options.
We seek two Digital Media and Learning Fellows to participate in a one year public service graduate fellowship. Fellows will work as part of our high school design team to populate digital media resources as part of a secondary school model. Digital Media and Learning Fellows will report to the Mastery Learning Specialist.
Responsibilities
Work with instructional design experts to build playlists and competency progressions for use in the new high school;
Offer subject matter expertise to personalize learning with digital resources;
Support the design of a high school model that utilizes adaptive learning courseware and a variety of open educational resources to deliver progressive digital challenges, continuously tailoring modules to fit students’ needs and allowing them to work at their own pace;
Assist in our digital literacy program for scholars;
Conduct and synthesize research in the games and learning field to fill gaps in understanding;
Participate in related outreach to the community including social media posts, articles on related to digital media and learning, conferences, and webinars.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, and credits toward, or enrollment in, an accredited graduate degree program;
Experience teaching others to use digital tools to enhance their work;
Demonstrated use of design thinking to plan and iterate on project implementation;
Experience using digital media and working with students and teachers in an educational setting.
Deep understanding of the games and learning field and/or relevant fields including educational technology, media for youth, and game development.
