POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications
SALARY: $47,000K-$52,000K
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Communications will be responsible for developing all communication materials for the organization, as well as managing media relations, social media, website content, and marketing campaigns. S/he will capture stories of the organization’s impact and integrate those into both print and digital media in order to cultivate new program participants and donors. The Director of Communications reports to the Executive Director.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create marketing materials to promote programs and showcase educational impact
Build media relationships with the press to create a public presence
Oversee social media channels and produce current updates
Update and maintain website with both written and digital content
Produce the content and design of external communication materials including invitations, donor solicitations, and fundraising documents
Assemble the organization’s Annual Report and related materials
Collaborate with the Development and Programming staff in order to effectively promote the organization and increase community involvement
Visit program sites to collect photographs/video and utilize footage to tell stories
Complete additional tasks as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Communications is required
2-4 years of experience working in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or Journalism required
Excellent writing and design skills
Experience working with the media and building relationships with the press
Ability to work independently and take initiative on new projects
Proficient in content management systems including email services, social media, and communication analytics
Comfortable working in a collaborative small nonprofit environment
Knowledge of Adobe In-Design, Illustrator and Photoshop required
Knowledge of HTML and video development preferred
