Boston Green Academy, an exciting Horace Mann in-district charter school within the Boston Public Schools, is seeking a Director of Development & Communications.

The Position
Boston Green Academy seeks an organized and energetic Director of Development & Communications to lead the development and implementation of a 3-5 year plan for institutional development that will include the identification and acquisition of resources required for the school to achieve its mission and goals. Included in this plan will be an Annual Fund campaign, major gifts from family foundations and corporations, an annual gala, and small cultivation events. The Director of Development & Communications reports directly to and advises the Headmaster, as well as the Board of Trustees and faculty, on all relevant matters. Working with the Headmaster and the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Director of Development & Communications will often serve as the public face and voice of the school.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and overseeing communications media that portray the life of the school in the public eye, such as the school’s website, an electronic newsletter, mailings and announcements, webinars, etc.
Maintaining relationships with philanthropic foundations, media contacts, elected officials, community-based organizations, and corporations
Working with Headmaster to cultivate new donors, affiliations, and partnerships
Planning for and securing major gifts and in-kind resources from individual donors, corporations, community-based organizations, and philanthropic foundations, conducting an Annual Fund campaign, fund-raising for special projects, etc.
Managing all aspects of annual BostonGreenGala fundraiser, including sponsorship, ticket sales, speaking program, silent auction, live giving opportunity and event follow-up
Attending meetings of the Board of Trustees and serving as its Documentarian; helping to plan meetings and retreats, and disseminating agendas, materials, and meeting minutes of the Board
Convening monthly meetings of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees and helping to coordinate its activities
Working with Finance Committee and finance consultants to coordinate reporting and records for both Boston Green Academy and the Boston Green Academy Foundation
Publishing an Annual Report
Supervising the development of all media materials, including logo, stationery, promotional materials and clothing, banners, news and press releases, etc.
Assisting the Headmaster and Board Chair in the recruitment of new members of the Board of Trustees
Coordinating any additional committees or working groups pertaining to resources, partnerships, or special events
Interfacing with the student body and parents and caregivers to solicit ideas and assistance
Representing the school at public events
Other duties as assigned by the Headmaster
Qualifications and Skills
Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Boston Green Academy and a deep respect for the work of educators
Demonstrated results in a similar role in the Development Office of a non-profit or for-profit setting for at least two years
Experience in developing the strategies and systems required for gathering resources, pursuing grant opportunities and forming partnerships
Experience in establishing the systems required for documentation and record-keeping, reporting, public engagement, and communications
Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor
Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with faculty, partners, and families in a diverse and multi-cultural environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Superlative organizational skills and ability to multitask
Proficiency in Excel and other Development Office/data management tools
Experience in communications/design/website management
2-5 years of experience and demonstrated results in managing fundraising initiatives at a school or non-profit organization
Undergraduate degree
Compensation:
$60-70K starting annual salary with excellent benefits, including alignment with school vacation schedule. Position is classified as a managerial position within the Boston Public Schools and Boston Green Academy.
