Director of Development, Engagement – National Brain Tumor Society – Newton, MA

National Brain Tumor Society is a leading non-profit fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. The Director of Development develops, implements, cultivates, secures and manages an engagement stewardship structure for NBTS through interaction with corporations, high-level volunteers, individual donors, boards, and other organizations. Primarily focuses on developing and building strong stewardship practices for event committees, sponsors through the teambuilding structure, and increasing awareness of NBTS’s mission and strategic initiatives through each community.

Primary Responsibilities:

Achieves dollar, volunteer recruitment and management goals for donor engagement.
Recruits, trains and assists staff on strategy and implementation of programs with Volunteers and Volunteer committees to ensure successful implementation of an engagement plan for constituents.
Builds strong, dynamic relationships with NBTS volunteer base.
Creates and implements annual stewardship plans and strategies for volunteers. Develops and manages fundraising plans and tracks goal progress to achievement. Utilizing data and reports, frequently analyzes and assesses event progress for financial and participation goals.
Assists in the role out of regional events and works with the development team to leverage local event participation of volunteers.
Implements the regional board strategy with senior leadership and Board of Directors.
Utilizes sales skills and CRM strategy to retain top donors/top volunteers; retrieves lapsed top donors/top volunteers; and provides opportunities to donors/survivors/development volunteers to become advocates and/or volunteers.
Assists advancement team and board members to cultivate and manage key relationships to attain fundraising goals.
Supports the development regional team in their recruitment and motivation of Family/Friend Teams. Recruits corporate teams, working independently and in collaboration with NBTS staff and volunteers.
Assists in developing engagement new and innovative initiatives with employee engagement of corporate teams.
Educates NBTS to build knowledge of stewardship best practices.
Organizes with senior leadership implementation of regional boards (kick-off meetings, orientations, receptions, debriefing meetings, etc.).
Ensures implementation of data collection for each volunteer and develop metrics for NBTS in regard to engagement.
Identifies and cultivates potential Major Gift prospective donors. Develops a major gift portfolio to personally manage and to steward to major gift officers.
Works collaboratively with staff responsible for other NBTS programs to deepen the engagement of constituents with NBTS. Works closely with program initiatives, advocacy, communications and corporate relations (where applicable) in a team environment to effectively represent NBTS and its mission in the community.
Implements special projects and other duties as needed.

Education and Required Abilities: Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and expertise considered. Previous experience with regional boards is preferred. Results-oriented professional with a minimum of five years of successful experience in fundraising, networking, board, stewardship, community organizing and/or outside sales skills required. Ability to maximize the engagement potential of each constituent, board and/or event by increasing engagement to a sustainable level and significantly increasing revenue. Proven success in stewardship with board development, regional boards and donor engagement plans. Exposure to large-scale fundraising events in a non-profit fundraising environment and has worked in an organization with regional boards. Motivated by mission, enjoys implementing fundraising and sponsorship strategies for engagement and meeting and exceeding revenue goals to drive support for mission. Successful experience recruiting, training, and delegating to volunteers desired. Adept at leveraging and building networks for outreach and stewardship initiatives. Works well with limited supervision. Creative and independent problem-solver. An ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Detail oriented and highly organized, while maintaining perspective and understanding the big picture. Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills. Ability to connect with and articulate NBTS mission to work with constituents at all levels and from various backgrounds. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience donor database software programs and online fundraising platforms preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Local travel required to meetings, events and donor visits requiring access to a car.
