Director of Information Systems – SF Marin Food Bank – San Francisco, CA

The Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin. This year, we will distribute 48 million pounds of food – enough for more than 109,000 meals each day. We partner with more than 450 organizations – including 240 neighborhood pantries – to distribute food to low-income residents of San Francisco and Marin counties. PURPOSE OF POSITION: Find and creatively apply appropriate information technology solutions to the mission and work of the Food Bank. Build and maintain the foodbank’s technology architecture, processes and procedures to support the business needs of the organization. Ensure a high quality, high availability computing and telephony environment. Ensure that the architecture can support the growing and changing needs of the organization. Lead the Information Systems team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic

Develop, implement and maintain information technology strategic plan for meeting current and future business needs. Supervise development of annual budget and work plans.
Maintain wide familiarity with current and emerging information technologies. Propose appropriate technology solutions and manage their implementation to meet current and prospective business needs.
Develop short and long range plans and schedules for the acquisition, upgrade and installation of equipment and software as needed. Monitor implementation of these plans.
Coordinate with other stakeholders and planning groups within the food bank. Advise and assist other departments in the specification, selection and implementation of software and other technology solutions. Serve as a liaison between non-technical stakeholders and internal or external technology providers.

Advise senior management on technology issues.
Maintain peer relationships with other food banks, represent organization in Operations & Technology Consortium and Feeding America network forums in areas of focus and expertise.
Develop and maintain relationships with peers in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. Leverage those relationships in furtherance of organizational goals.

    Operational

Supervise Information Systems team. Provide leadership, management and mentoring.
Manage and lead projects utilizing internal and external resources. Manage relationships with vendors and donors of information technology resources.
Develop and maintain information architectures (data, application, network) ensuring the system is on-line daily. Oversee setup, management, and maintenance of IS-related equipment.
Develop and monitor performance levels of software and hardware and evaluate, recommend, and propose alternative methods of information processing.
Facilitate the development of business intelligence plans for the current business areas, providing support in development of measurements and outcomes
Develop/maintain security and disaster recovery plans across all systems and platforms.
Document business processes and procedures.
Oversee and support training staff in the use of IS related equipment and applications.
Ensure end-users are supported in resolution of IS-related problems in a responsive and service oriented manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to perform essential duties.
Wide experience and expertise in Information Technology and Business Intelligence.
Sufficient understanding of database theory, programming logic, business procedures, project management, computer systems, networking, telecommunications, operating systems, help desk management, network security, emerging technologies to lead, manage and mentor the Information Systems team.
Experience successfully managing staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work and interact well with individuals (staff, volunteers and participants) from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Interest in hunger or food issues
Valid driver’s license
