Director of Operations – HeARTs Speak – Poughkeepsie, NY

HeARTs Speak has an immediate opening for dynamic and innovative Director of Operations. This is a great opportunity for someone with passion and proven collaborative leadership skills to make a difference for animals through art in a truly unique organization.

Position Summary: The Director of Operations is a high-level position that will oversee a wide range of functions including: program development, community outreach, human resources, grants and contracts and technology. Working directly with the executive leadership team, this individual must be a strategic thinker and a thoughtful and respectful collaborator.

Responsibilities:

• Work with executive team and volunteers to expand the organization’s capacity to carry out its programs, projects and outreach • Develop and manage educational and outreach programs for the animal welfare community • Assist the Executive Director in cultivating public and private funding and creating sustainable revenue streams from diverse sources including individual donors, foundations and corporations • HR strategy and planning • Oversee the artist member database • Actively foster team spirit and morale • Travel to educational workshops and conferences

Skills and Experience:

• 3 -5 years of relevant experience, demonstrating a progressively increased level of leadership responsibility in the nonprofit or public sectors • Ability to strategize and understand progressive grassroots efforts • A natural leader, able to inspire others with creativity, vision, and strategy, as well as demonstrated ability as a hands-on manager • A consensus-builder with a sincere orientation toward collaboration and with the ability to mediate differing points of view • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative relationships with employees, vendors, Board members, and partners • Ability to implement a vision, solve problems and use good judgment • An excellent communicator in both speaking and in writing • The maturity to balance multiple perspectives and demonstrate excellent judgment • Ability to identify potential problems, analyze issues, and provide proactive solutions • Proven track record of building and maintaining external relationships • Proficient in human resource management • Success applying for and managing grants and contracts a plus • Energetic and optimistic; with a sense of humor
