Editorial interns at Vela are integral to the magazine’s day-to-day operations. They read submissions; maintain the website; research ways to expand the magazine’s audience and increase community engagement; assist in running various social media accounts; participate in putting out Vela’s regular columns and newsletter; and help to discover and highlight exceptional nonfiction writing by women.
Interns are expected to work approximately 3-5 hours a week, and are active members of Vela’s community. They are encouraged to propose new projects, to shadow the work of senior editors, and to try their hand at writing for the magazine.
Interns are ideally members of MFA or other graduate writing programs, although undergraduates are welcome to apply. Candidates must have regular Internet access and be timely in their response to emails.
How to apply
Please send a brief cover letter with your background, qualifications, and interest in the position to sarah@velamag.com. Tell us about some of your favorite nonfiction by women and your interest in working for Vela.
