JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The primary responsibility of the Exhibit Design & Production Director is to oversee the design and production of a suite of new exhibits for Bronx Children’s Museum. S/he will work with the Executive Director and the Capital & Exhibits Consultant to achieve the following:
batch, prioritize, and refine existing Exhibit Operational Descriptions for advancement into and through the design process
lead the engagement of a network of exhibit design and production partners, including a broad network of Bronx-based community artists
help to right-size scopes of work for three (3) thematic areas and flexible-use spaces
develop a phasing plan that prioritizes design and production for the Natural Science Inquiry and Early Learner areas
direct and lead the exploratory RFP/RFI process to identify design, artistic, and production partners – emphasizing the Museum’s preference for Bronx-based partners
support development, scoping, and integration of exhibition media elements, including an interactive map; community resource databases; and media-rich visitor experiences
develop and articulate design guidelines for cross-gallery applications (e.g. text hierarchies, interface standards for interactives, etc.)
support the Museum’s communications with our City partners and Architect in the seamless integration of exhibition and building features
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
BA or BS required
Min. 5-7 years experience overseeing exhibition projects through design, production, and implementation
Experience reading architectural plans a plus, though formal Architecture background not required
Background in natural science and/or natural science education, a plus
Strong visual communication skills
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet schedules, budgets, and deadlines
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail, accuracy and pacing
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and project management software
Flexibility and ability to work virtually, adapt to shifting duties while maintaining focus and follow-through
Speak a second language, a plus
