Made In A Free World (MIAFW) is an anti-slavery organization based in San Francisco, California. We have been recognized as a visionary leader for our work, including the “rockumentary” film, CALL+RESPONSE, and the multiple-award-winning website, Slavery Footprint (www.slaveryfootprint.org). Through innovative use of new media, we have educated and engaged over 1.7 million people about modern-day slavery. Since our establishment we have partnered up with the U.S. Department of State, MTV, and Google, among others; and our work has been featured on various media outlet, including CNN, The New York Times, and TIME.
COMMUNICATIONS Internships
Two (2) positions available for Fall 2015.
We are seeking two communications interns to assist Made In A Free World’s campaigns team with marketing, social media, and outreach. Are you an awesome communicator who loves inspiring and being inspired? Creative with a flair for engaging “hooks”? Stay up-to-date on the latest apps and social media blogs? Never put down the paper without glancing through the “World” section? Optimistic that this generation can end modern slavery? Yes? We want you!
Responsibilities:
• Keep your nose in the news! Stay informed of current events and research related to human trafficking and modern slavery
• Create thought-provoking and creative content
• Help develop and implement online and grassroots campaigns
Background and skills required for this position:
• Know social media inside and out: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Tumblr
• Desire to tackle the big social challenges of our day with optimism and creativity
• Strong writing skills (writing sample required)
• Ability to quickly process and execute new ideas
• Appreciation of great (or not so great) jokes
• Familiarity with Photoshop and social media analytics apps preferable
Interns may start as early as September 1 and as late as October 1. We request a time commitment of 20-40 hours per week for a minimum of 8 weeks. Interns must work at our office in San Francisco at least 1 day per week and may be able to work remotely on the other days.
