Graphic Designer – Bike New York

Reports to: Director of Communications

Classification: Full-time paid

Compensation: $35-45k, based on experience

Organization Overview: Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting cycling as a safe, healthy, and sustainable means of transportation and recreation. Best known for producing the world’s biggest charitable bike ride (the TD Five Boro Bike Tour), Bike New York also organizes regional rides, local rides, and the nation’s most-attended consumer bike expo. Proceeds from these events fund our free bike education classes. In 2014, we taught bike riding and bike safety skills to more than 16,000 people. www.bike.nyc

Position Description: Bike New York is looking for an in-house graphic designer to creating stunning visuals for both print and digital media. He or she will work closely on a daily basis with the Director of Communications and Communications Manager, and will receive creative direction from Pentagram, Bike New York’s design partner, to translate marketing and brand strategies into comps that render beautifully in print and digital.

The Graphic Designer will work with the Communications Director and Communications Manager to:

Work on briefs from concept through to print/launch-ready artwork
Design merchandise, including cycling jerseys, cycling shorts, cycling caps, T-shirts, jackets, etc.
Design collateral for print, advertising, events, outreach, digital print, and social media purposes
Develop content for web pages, interactive media, and multi-media projects
Format documents into pre-arranged templates both for advertising, newsletter, direct mail, and EDM web-based executions
Convert design layouts for pre-press and print
Contribute to design of all sales and marketing materials
Manage relationships with external partners (graphic artists, writers, developers, printers, etc.) to ensure effective execution
Maintain archives and inventory of all templates (presentations, announcements, etc.) and marketing materials, and communicate their availability and proper use to staff
Collaborate closely with all departments to ensure that the integrity of the Bike New York brand is maintained in organization-wide applications
Co-develop content and promotional strategies to raise brand and event awareness

Candidates must:

be highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
be capable of handling extremely quick turnarounds for last-minute projects, and able to execute in the short-term while simultaneously pursuing long-term strategic goals;
be able to prioritize and execute without compromising quality;
and demonstrate exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

B.A. in Graphic Design or related field
2+ years’ experience at an agency, design house, or in-house creative department
Current Adobe CreativeSuite, especially: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Impeccable written and verbal skills
