The Washington Health Alliance was created to build a leadership coalition – among purchasers, providers, health plans, patients and others – to improve the quality of health care for our community, at a price more people can afford. The work of the Alliance focuses on defining, measuring, reporting and rewarding high quality, efficient health care in Washington State.
A key component of the Alliance’s work is to develop and produce performance reports using state-wide health data to improve health care decision-making, leading to quality improvement and ultimately cost control. The Health Information Analyst will assist the Director of Performance Measurement in work related to the production of the performance reports, specialized analytics, and enhancements to the Alliance Performance Reporting System. The Health Information Analyst will work closely with our data aggregation vendor, the Alliance’s various committees and key representatives of organizations involved in the Alliance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Alliance seeks an exceptionally strong and analytically-oriented individual who is experienced, capable, and comfortable working on dynamic, multi-faceted, fast-paced projects for which continuous planning, oversight, and management is essential. This full-time position will include direct work with industry experts and top executives among health care purchasers, providers, and health plans in the in state of Washington. The position will also encompass diverse tasks and responsibilities, from highly technical matters to regional business concerns that require an understanding of the complexities of the heath care sector. Major responsibilities of this position include:
1. Play a key role in the planning, development and production of performance reports addressing health quality, utilization, and cost within the state of Washington. Specific activities include:
Develop project timeline and manage key portions of the project to assure timely completion
Identify technical issues that arise and work with project team, Alliance committees and associated stakeholders to address and resolve issues
Work from performance results to draft text for public reports that address what is measured, why it is important and how it should be interpreted for various audiences
Work with the project team to continually improve the process, including adding more measures and data sources
2. Organize and track data supplier and medical group engagement activities related to the performance reports.
3. Develop technical documents related to performance reports including technical specifications, issue briefs, write-ups of technical items for committee/Board consideration.
4. Manage the processing of requests for use of the dataset (e.g. requests from Alliance data suppliers, public health departments and research organizations) through initial inquiry, analysis, evaluation, committee consideration, decision and implementation.
5. As needed, participate in meetings and workgroups for local, regional and national initiatives on behalf of the Alliance.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Masters in Health Informatics, Health Administration, Health Policy or equivalent education and work experience. Significant industry-relevant experience is required. Additional qualifications include the following:
Experience measuring and reporting on quality and/or cost within the health care system
Strong working knowledge of HEDIS measure specifications
Previous experience working with health care claims data
Strong SQL programming experience, including knowledge and understanding of database technology and data modeling
Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple complex projects simultaneously, manage multiple deadlines, and to anticipate and coordinate resources
Strong analytic and quantitative aptitude, including an understanding of statistics
Experience creating compelling and meaningful end-user reports displaying health quality and cost information for a wide range of audiences, including providers, consumers, health plans, and purchasers
Ability to present information on performance measurement topics to audiences with varying degrees of familiarity and understanding of the topics
Self-directed; a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
Strong inter-personal skills and poise to work directly with senior leaders
Technical and detail oriented
Enthusiastic team player
